Revised 2014
Instructions for Completing Academic Scholarship Application
The following information is provided to help the Bethel Daughter and Bethel Guardian Council when
completing the Job’s Daughter Scholarship application. Please carefully review and follow all
instructions. Each year the Scholarship Committee rejects applications for such things as lack of a
signature, missing a required letter, or a late postmark. It is a shame to disallow these applications when
comprehensive review of the requirements by all involved could avoid many of these situations.
Bethel Guardian Council:
1. Destroy all scholarship application forms you may presently have and secure the current
applications from the Grand Secretary or from the California Grand Guardian Council
website (www.caiojd.org).
2. Council letter (should include the following information):
a. Date of initiation
b. All offices held, number of times each office including choir, held
c. Special awards Daughter received, if given by the Bethel
d. Contests entered for Grand Bethel
e. Bethel committees/events Daughter chaired and their success
f. Number of new members she has brought into the Bethel (petitions signed)
g. If PHQ or MM list support she has given her (or another) Bethel since completion of
her term or since Majority
h. Example of how she distinguishes herself from other Daughters
3. The Council letter must include the signatures of all five (5) Executive Council Members or a
notation that the office is not filled. Points will be deducted for missing signatures. If
applicant is an Executive Council Member please note at her signature line.
Daughter:
1. Daughters submitting a Scholarship application should answer each and every question.
2. Application should list all offices held, including choir and number of times each position
was held. The application should also include a detailed list of all of your Bethel and Grand
Bethel Activities. Your Bethel activities and accomplishments are now weighted equally
with your grades, so be sure to add an extra page to list them.
3. Daughter’s personal letter requires a salutation (Dear Scholarship Board) and must be signed.
It should include a statement of education plans. The content and form of this letter is a very
important to judging.
4. High School transcripts should be requested as soon as the first semester of 12th grade is
completed (usually December or January).
5. College transcripts should be requested as soon as the fall semester is completed (usually
December or January).
6. High School seniors (and High School graduates not attending college) need a school
recommendation which MUST be from their High School Principal, Dean, Counselor, or
Instructor. THE LETTER MUST BE ON SCHOOL LETTERHEAD.
7. A Daughter already enrolled in college MUST have a recommendation from her College
Dean, Counselor, Advisor, or Instructor (not a letter from high school). THE LETTER
MUST BE ON COLLEGE LETTERHEAD.
8. If more space is needed for any section additional pages may be added.
Revised 2014
Both:
1. Start early – several items are required to accompany the application.
2. No late applications will be accepted.
3. Review requirements on Scholarship Application Form as well as those stated on these
instruction pages.
4. Be sure all required signatures are obtained.
5. Completed Scholarship Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2014.
6. Completed applications, with all required paperwork, are to be sent to the Scholarship
Committee c/o the Grand Secretary’s office. The address is:
Scholarship Board
Grand Guardian Council of California
303 W. Lincoln Ave., Suite 210
Anaheim, CA 92805
7. Applications MUST have THREE (3) SIGNATURES: Daughter, parent or guardian, and
the Bethel Guardian or highest-ranking Executive Council member, if there is no Bethel
Guardian. Applications missing any or all of these signatures will be disqualified.
8. No Daughter will be considered for a Job’s Daughters Scholarship who has previously
received one.
9. Applicants should take the completed application form, personal letter, transcript, school
letter, and addressed mailing envelope to the Bethel Guardian. The Bethel Guardian should
check to see the application is complete and all rules have been followed. The Executive
Bethel Guardian Council letter should then be added to the required paperwork and given to
the Daughter for mailing. (The Council letter may be sealed for confidentiality.)
In the case of a closed Bethel:
1. The Grand Secretary shall sign the Scholarship Application Form for the Daughter of a
closed Bethel in place of the Bethel Guardian.
2. The Deputy Grand Guardian or former Deputy Grand Guardian together with the former
Bethel Guardian and former Associate Bethel Guardian may sign the letter of
recommendation for the Bethel Guardian Council. Proper notation shall be made if such
officers are no longer available.
