Dear Parents/Guardians, 1.4.2011

Happy New Year!!! It is wonderful to have all of the members of the St. Sylvester School community come together again as we resume classes. I hope that your time away from school during

Christmas was peaceful and rejuvenating. The school staff is excited about all our big plans for 2011.

The Season of Christmas

Christmas is more than just one day in the church calendar – it is a season. We will continue to celebrate this season in the classrooms throughout this week with class lessons and visits by Fr. Paul and

Fr. Elvio.

Early Enrollment Form – Preschool, Kindergarten, 1 st & 2 nd Grade

As mentioned before the Christmas break, we want to do 2 things in regards to enrollment for next school year, a) give priority to current students and families and b) get an early idea of what our numbers will be in the early childhood grades. All families of students currently in preschool, kindergarten, and 1 st will be receiving this form today. One form will be needed for each child. If you need a form for anyone else please ask for one from the front office. We ask you to please return it as soon as possible. No registration fee is due at this time.

2010-11 School Year Registration

During Catholic Schools Week we will kick off open registration for the 2011-2012 school year.

This is when we will open up class spaces and you will have the chance to fill out the registration form, pay the registration fee and hold your child’s place in the classroom. As in the past two years, families who register during the early registration period will be eligible for a registration and/or tuition discount.

The discount will be announced in the weeks leading up to Catholic Schools Week.

Catholic Schools Week

Every year, the last Sunday in January starts Catholic Schools Week, a time for us to recognize and celebrate all of our Catholic schools. We have an incredible amount to celebrate in our community at St.

Sylvester and we anticipate a very fun and event-filled week.

Some events will be familiar to students and families who have been at St. Sylvester for several years. We will feature daily themes of appreciation: staff appreciation day, student appreciation day, etc.

One date to reserve in advance is Thursday, February 3 from 6:00-8:00 for our Family Game Night.

After School Clubs

Next week we aim to send out our sign-up sheet for the extended day clubs and classes.

Winter Weather Information

General reminder, we will be open if the Chicago Public Schools are open. The best way to learn of any emergency closings is to listen to WBBM 780 or WGN 720 as they will announce any school closings.

Catholic High School Entrance Exam – Saturday, January 8, 2011

This coming Saturday is an important day in the young lives of our 8 th grade students as nearly all of them will be taking an entrance exam at one of Chicago’s many great Catholic high schools. The students have been preparing for a long time and have visited and toured many schools in making their decisions as to which schools to attend. This due diligence, their class work, and Ms. Copre’s High

School Prep club have prepared them well. We will be thinking of them this Saturday morning.
