General Business
a. Court Maintenance
Derek suggested that the far courts be discussed firstly. He said that the
courts are in need of a face lift and Bobby said that the courts need to be
repaired quickly as the grass is growing through the surface. Sid
suggested that an assessment should be made of what needs to be done,
who can do it and how much it will cost. Derek commented that something
needed to be done quickly as with the increase in membership the courts
will be needed. Rita suggested giving Joe the curator some more time to
spend on maintaining these courts.
Action:
Bobby said he can speak to Joe regarding how many hours it will
take to improve the far courts and to do the costing.
Toni also mentioned that gravel and loam and line tapes were needed.
b. Court Safety
Freda mentioned that a boy slipped over and broke his arm on one of the
courts.
Bobby suggested that they should ask players to rake and water the
courts after they have finished playing to avoid holes in the court that
could be hazardous but who would make sure they do this.
Rita said that there were signs up as well.
Action: All members of the committee to ensure that players comply
with the request to rake and water the courts after completion of
their game.
c. Fund Raising for Juniors
Derek asked for any ideas to raise money for the bus hire to send the
junior tennis players to the Griffith Tournament.
Bobby suggested a fancy dress night as a fun way to raise money.

Freda queried if this type of party would be suitable for all ages.
Toni suggested restricting attendance to teenagers and adults.
Sid asked if it was mandatory to dress up and it was decided no.
It was decided to go ahead with the cross dressing night on Saturday
fortnight.
Toni decided that the function should cost $35.00 per head.
Action:
Rita to get a notice out straight away and to mention that the
fundraiser is to assist the juniors to get to the Griffith Junior
Tournament, that it is to be held on Saturday fortnight, for teenagers
and above in age and it is to cost $25.00 per head.
Rita to organise the food.
Sid to organise the music.
Rita and Sid to get prices straight away and let George know so that
the costs can be put in the notices.
d. Griffith Junior Tournament
Derek reported that the Griffith Junior Tournament is scheduled for the last
Sunday of next month and the bus will have to leave at 6.30am.
Sid commented that this was too early for the children and that they
should leave the night before.
Bobby said that Mario Valuchi has offered his wine storage shed for
accommodation and that they could have a Barbeque and Bonfire. All
agreed on this course of action. Rita said you can’t have the kids near
wine as they will be staggering all over the court.
Action:
Bobby to hire the bus.
e. Format of Competition
Derek commented that the Club was starting to get more members and in

order to keep them they would have to think of a strategy to prevent the
games from finishing too late. He suggested that the sets be cut from 4 to
3 to accommodate the extra players and prevent the games from finishing
too late. He also suggested that the starting time could be brought foward
from 7.00 to 7.30.
Sid commented that 7.00 was too early as it was a rush to get ready.
Derek said it didn’t take long to get ready for tennis.
It was decided to try reducing the number of sets firstly to see if this was
enough to alleviate the problem.
Action:
Rita to add a proposal to the next newsletter that the reduced
number of sets would be introduced next competition.
