Industrial Revolution Power Point Project
As we study the growth of the new United States during the first half
of the 19th Century (c. 1800-1850), we also need to study how
everyday life changed for the people of the United States. Therefore,
let’s study some 19th Century inventions.
1. Choose one invention.
Your choice is: ________________________________
2. Your PowerPoint Project is due on: Tuesday, 17 March 2015.
E-MAIL THE PROJECT TO ME AT:
Richard.Ingraham@boone.kyschools.us
(You may e-mail your project to me before the due date.)
3. Collect as much information about your topic as you can from
the following sources:
a. your textbook
b. library materials (encyclopedias, books, etc.)
c. internet websites
4. Take Notes
a. notes will be collected and graded
b. note bibliographic information
5. Write an “encyclopedia-like” feature article. Your article must
be three paragraphs long as follows:
Paragraph 1 – describe how your invention works
Paragraph 2 – describe how your invention changed life
Paragraph 3 – describe the life of the inventor (briefly)
Hints to improve your “encyclopedia-like” feature article
take notes as you find information
write your article in your own words…never copy someone
else’s words…that is plagiarism
use block letters, not script style…16 point font size is too
big… 10 point is too small
keep each paragraph focused on one idea
keep your sentences simple and easy to understand
your article should be one page to two pages long
6. Design a PowerPoint slide show to show the class. You must
have slides for the following:
A. title slide
B. a picture of the inventor
C. the inventor’s biographic information
D. a picture of the invention
E. how the invention works
F. life BEFORE the invention
G. how the invention changed life
H. bibliography (including photo credits)
Hints to improve your Power Point Slide Presentation
 include a picture of the invention and the inventor
 keep your slides clean and simple
 use animation and transitions sparingly
 do not use sound effects
 do not write complete sentences…write bullet notes only



script style
use block letters, not
…20 point font size is easy
to read on the big screen… 10 point font size is not
use light colored backgrounds and dark colored print
when you present your slide show, DO NOT read each slide to
the class…the class can read the slide for themselves.
Explain the invention and why it’s important … in your own
words.
