Job Description
K – 12 Dean of Students
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. (3) three years successful teaching experience
2. Experience as a varsity coach a plus
3. Current Colorado Teachers License
4. Knowledge of Athletics and Scheduling a must
5. Knowledge of leadership skills, strong management skills, conflict
management skills
6. Organizations and record keeping skills
7. Strong human relationship skills and excellent verbal and written
communication skills
8. Experience K – 12 desirable
9. Knowledge of student discipline policies, protocols and best practices a must
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Superintendent and K – 12 Principal / Director of Student Achievement
SUPERVISES:
Coaches, Assists in supervising all licensed educators and classified employees
JOB GOAL:
The K – 12 Dean of Student’s job goal is to assist the Principal in ways that allow the
Principal to be the Educational Leader for all buildings, K – 12.
DUTIES:
1. Activities Director
a. Coordinates activities / athletics at Mancos School District
b. Coordinates and participates in athletic program assessment
c. Recruits, coordinates and evaluates all coaches and sponsors
d. Provides assurances of all coaches being CHSAA certified
e. Serves as Administrator during all home activities and select away
activities
f. Coordinates all areas of activity/athletic program including budget,
officials, transportation, league meetings, equipment, student
eligibility, eligibility handbook, ticket selling, inventory and other
assigned duties
g. Participates with the administrative team in developing yearly,
monthly and weekly calendars of events
h. Keeps the principal informed of activities and problems
i. Initiates, designs and implements programs to meet the needs of the
school with the approval of the principal
j. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in CHSAA rules and
regulations
k. Assists in the orientation and development of new coaches and
sponsors
l. Assists in preparation of the school budget related to activities and
athletics
m. Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the
principal may assign related to activities or athletics
n. Supervises and evaluates the school’s extracurricular activities
2. K – 12 Discipline
a. Develops policies on tardiness, attendance, discipline, bullying and
deal with day to day student discipline issues.
b. Manages student supervision and enforce school behavior
expectations; including attendance
c. Counsels students and parents about school and district policies
d. Assists in the planning, developing and implementing individual
student behavior plans
e. Maintains high standards of student conduct and works to ensure
discipline codes are followed for all students, according due process to
the rights of students.
f. Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management
issues
g. Assists in developing programs to promote positive student behavior
as well as intervention strategies
h. Confers appropriate consequences for behavior issues
3. Schedules
a. With assistance from counselor, K – 12 Principal and secretaries,
design master schedule and coordinate registration process
b. Coordinates daily duty schedules
4. Day to Day Operations
a. Coordinates parent teacher conferences, registration and back to
school nights
b. Assumes responsibility for all attendance, conduct and records related
to.
5. Facilities
a. Coordinates with Head Maintenance all daily facility needs and repairs
b. Coordinates transportation requests with the transportation department
and the district office in the required timeline.
c. Coordinates facility use requests with the district office in the required
timeline.
d. Completes a monthly walk-through with the lead custodian and keeps
accurate records of the walk-through in order to ensure proper care and
maintenance of the physical plant.
e. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and
nonacademic purposes.
6. Safety Officer
a. Develops, implement and oversee Crisis Management Plan and team
b. Plans and supervises fire drills and other drills as mandated by the
board and state.
7. Parent issues related to above duties
8. Leadership Skills
a. Blends positive people to people skills and organizational needs to
develop an open, trusting relationship between faculty, students and
community members
b. Assists in the implementation and observance of all Board policies and
regulations by the school’s staff and students.
c. Makes strained situations work more productively
d. Assists in yearly evaluations of staff, under the guidance of K – 12
Principal and only if person has a Type D License.
