ALGEBRA 2
I.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR/CITIZENSHIP
A. All work in this class is to be done in pencil.
B. The textbook is to be covered at all times.
C. All mathematical computations are to be visible on all homework, quizzes,
and tests or credit maybe withheld.
D. Common courtesy and appropriate behavior is expected.
E. Cheating will not be tolerated.
F. Come to class with all necessary materials. (pencil, paper, test, calculator)
G. Tardies are not acceptable. See school policy.
II.
STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN:
a. Identify, graph, and describe the graphs of basic families of functions including
linear, absolute value, quadratic, and exponential.
b. Solve and write equations for linear functions.
c. Create and solve systems of equations in two and three variables, algebraically and
graphically using a graphing calculator.
d. Use discrete structures, such as networks and matrices as tools to analyze patterns
and solve systems of equations.
e. Simplify and solve equations involving rational exponents, polynomial expressions,
radicals and complex numbers.
f. Find factors and zeros of polynomial functions.
g. Identify, write equations of, and graph the conic sections (parabolas, circles, ellipses,
and hyperbolas)
h. Simplify, graph, and solve rational expressions and equations.
i. Simplify, graph, and solve exponential and logarithmic expressions and equations.
j. Solve problems involving independent events, dependent events, permutations, and
combinations by calculating probabilities
k. Describe data selecting measures of central tendencies and distribution, to convey
information in the data.
l. Find values of trigonometric functions and solve triangles using Pythagorean’s
theorem, Law of Sines and Law of Cosines.
m. Recognize and apply multi-step problem solving strategies to a variety of situations.
n. Communicate mathematical ideas and solutions both written and orally using
numerical, graphical, and symbolic representation.
o. Apply mathematical skills and processes to global issues and how these skills are
used in careers.
III. DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
Daily work consists of homework, group work, and class exercises.
A. There will be daily homework assignments given. Homework is NOT
optional – it is required.
B. To be eligible for the test you must have completed 60% of the assigned
homework or you will have to take the retake where the maximum score is 70%.
C. You will have a “gate“ each semester that must be passes with a 100% or you
will earn a 0%. You will be given multiple opportunities to retake to earn 100%.
First semester the gate is on graphing and second semester on factoring.
IV. MAKE-UP WORK
It is the student’s responsibility to find out and make up any work missed due to
an excused absence. Please look at the posted assignment calendar to find the
assignments that were missed. Missed quizzes may NOT be made up. You will
earn an “E” for an excused grade and will be eligible for a blank copy of the quiz
upon your request. This excused grade does not reflect negatively or positively
on your grade. Missed tests must be made up outside of class time. A missed test
must be made up at the appointed time. A test that is not completed on the make
up day will become a zero.
V. GRADING SYSTEM
Grading Scale:
A = 90% and above
B = 80%-89%
C = 70%-79%
D = 60%- 69%
F = less then 60%
VI. OFFICE HOURS
I will be available before school and after school by appointment. It is YOUR
responsibility to contact me if you need extra help. Other tutorial programs will
be made available to you as the year progresses. Don’t wait until it is too late to
get help.
VII. MATERIAL NEEDED
1. Notebook and paper.
2. Pencils.
3. Algebra 2 by Glencoe (provided by your instructor).
4. A book cover for your textbook.
5. Calculator(one with graphing capabilities is recommended)
6. Ruler and protractor.
7. Graph paper
8. 4 dry erase markers
*There will be a materials quiz on September 1st …. you may take the quiz early
if you are prepared.
