Lane School Lunch Volunteer- Grade 3
Shift:
There is one grade-3 lunch period here at Lane School. This lunch happens to be the second
lunch block of the day on four days of the week. This lunch period runs from 12:30-12:50. Our
students will be arriving from recess on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On
Wednesdays the grade-3 lunch period runs from 11:35-11:55.
Job Description:
The lunch volunteers are asked to circulate the cafeteria and assist our students with various
needs. Examples include but are not limited to opening lunch items for students (yogurts can be
challenging), encouraging the children to eat, supporting a clean environment, and supporting our
custodial staff with table cleaning. At no time do we ask our volunteers to help out in the kitchen.
In order to maintain a sanitized environment in our kitchen only members of the Bedford lunch
program are allowed behind the serving bar.
Job Details:
1. Please sign in and get a nametag at the office and proceed to the cafeteria. It would be
beneficial if you can arrive just prior to 12:30 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday)
and just prior to 11:35 on Wednesdays to support the students arriving from recess.
2. When a student needs to use the bathroom we allow them to use the single stall restroom
across the hallway from the cafeteria. If there is an overflow the student can use the
grade 3-4 bathrooms down the hallway. .
3. Children’s safety is our top concern. Our staff at Lane is always here to offer some
advice should you need it. All serious behavioral issues should be reported to one of our
Lane staff members. We ask that volunteers refrain from disciplining our students as we
aim for consistency and fairness.
4. Students should never leave the cafeteria without permission. Going back to the
classrooms in not allowed unless a student forgets his/her lunch or lunch money.
Students should not be allowed to go to the library unless they have a note from their
teacher to do so.
5. We have an allergy table that is located in the far left of the cafeteria. These students are
there for their safety. Please periodically check in with these students to ensure that the
table remains peanut free. If you have any questions please see one of our Lane School
staff members.
6. Jimmy Higson is our custodian. Please see Jimmy if any student has a spillage or needs a
large scale clean up.
7. It is natural to want to sit and spend most of your time with your own child. However,
we ask that you treat your child like the rest of our students. It is ok to stop and say hello,
but please continue to circulate the café.
8. If your own child should require corrective action for his/her behavior we ask that you
seek out a Lane Staff member. This may avoid embarrassment for your child.
