Incredible Years Training at Archways

A number of training opportunities are available through Archways for those interested in delivering the Incredible Years
programme in their area.
The Incredible Years Parent programmes
*NEW* The Basic Parent Group Leader training programme *NEW*
A training programme for those interested in delivering the Incredible Years Basic Parent programme, the recently
revised Basic Parent training programmes is for group leaders who are working with parents. This 3 day training is
designed to promote positive strategies and to assist parents in managing children’s behaviour problems. The
programme includes: play, helping problem solving, effective communication skills and supporting children’s
education. Group process issues such as empowering parent, collaborating, dealing with resistance, confronting
and teaching, supporting and advocating for parents will be discussed. The training provides group leaders with
the skills and information they need to begin delivering the Incredible Years Basic Parent programme.
Cost: €550

The Advance Parent Group Leader training programme
The next step for those delivering the Incredible Years parenting programmes. The Advance Parent programme is
based on the same principles as the Basic Parent programme is for parents who have already completed the Basic
Parent programme and require further support. Topics covered include: adult communication and interpretation
skills; problem solving with partners, teachers & children; anger management; and how to give and get support.
This two day training is for group leaders wishing to deliver the Advance Parent programme. Participants must
have completed the Basic Parent Group Leader training in order to do the Advance Parent Group Leader training.
Cost: €450
*NEW* The Infant & Toddler Group Leader training programme *NEW*
A newly developed parenting programme targeted at those with new-born children & infants. This course is for
group leaders who wish to deliver this specifically tailored programme to parents of infants. This is one day
training course and participants must have undertaken the Basic Parent Group Leader training, prior to
undertaking this training. The recently published Infant programme is based on the same principles as the Basic
Parent programme for parents of younger children.
This training day is for group leaders who have undertaken Basic Parent Group Leader training and ideally have
delivered the Basic Parent programme. They are offered as a participative supplement to the Basic Parent Group
Leader training and will be helpful for leaders who are working towards leader certification.

*NEW* The Basic Parent Group Leader Upgrade training day *NEW*
The Basic Parent Group Leader Upgrade training is a one day training for group leaders who have completed the
Basic Parent training programme prior to June 2008. The upgrade day covers additional course content and
revisions allowing group leaders to keep fully up-to-date with the Incredible Years parenting programme and
ensure fidelity to the programme.

The Incredible Years Child programmes
The Dinosaur Social Skills and Problem Solving curriculum is a child training curriculum that strengthens children's
social, emotional and academic competencies such as understanding and communicating feelings, using effective
problem solving strategies, managing anger, practicing friendship and conversational skills, as well as appropriate
classroom behaviours.
The Dinosaur curriculum can be delivered in two modalities
and therefore two separate trainings are offered for each:
‘Small Group Dina’ Group Leader training programme
This two-day course provides basic training in delivering the Small Group Dina Therapeutic programme. This
intervention is appropriate for use with small groups of children (no more than 6) experiencing behaviour
problems (from pre-school to eight years). This can be used as a pull-out intervention strategy within the school
environment, as well as within after school, and family resource centres. Attendance at this workshop is the first
step in becoming a certified group leader.
Cost: €450
‘Classroom Dina’ Group Leader training programme
This three day course provides basic training in delivering the Classroom Dina Programme. The Classroom Dina is
delivered 2-3 times a week by facilitators/teachers in the classroom. It consists of 20-30 minute circle time
lessons, which incorporate the use of small group practice activities to promote key skills. Within the school
context, these concepts can usefully be reinforced throughout the day. Similarly, this programme can be useful
within the school as well as preschools and early years services.
Cost: €550
Teacher Classroom Management training programme
The Teacher Classroom Management training programme is a 5 day training programme run for 1 day a month
over several months during the school year. The programme is focused on strengthening teacher classroom
management strategies, promoting children's prosocial behaviour, and reducing classroom aggression and
noncooperation with peers and teachers. The program can be useful for teachers, teacher aides, psychologists,
school counsellors, and any school personnel working with young children.
Consultation Days
Consultation Days are for group leaders who have been delivering the Incredible Years programmes and wish to
improve their skills and pursue certification as a group leader. There will be an opportunity to discuss problems of
retention, recruitment and other issues that have arisen. Participants should be familiar with the process of
completing evaluations of their own performance using the Peer and Self evaluation and leader collaborative
checklists and be willing to bring a video-tape from part of a session for consultation. Consultation days are
certified training days which can be used as evidence when submitting for leader certification. All attendees will
receive a certificate of attendance. Available in both the Parent programme & Dina programme this one day
training provide a unique opportunity to gain feedback, discuss problems and take the next step in your Incredible
Years training.

Archways National Conference
Archways second national conference will take place this year on September 21st & 22nd. Building on the success of
the conference last year the 2009 conference promises to be an interesting and engaging event. Archways are
delighted to announce that keynote speaker at the event will be Prof. Carolyn Webster-Stratton, developer of the
Incredible Years programmes.
