SUMMER INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Intended for pre-university, undergraduate, and post-graduate students as well as
professionals interested in improving their English language skills and developing their
understanding of various aspects of American culture, the following summer courses also
offer an opportunity to visit the Washington, D.C., area.
5-WEEK PROGRAMS
English for Academic and Professional Success
Annandale Campus
An opportunity to acquire an understanding of American Culture as a chance to use and improve oral
and written communications skills. The course will introduce American society and fundamentals of U.S.
history, government, culture, and popular culture. As an elective, participants can choose from either
English for Professional Success or English Teaching Mini-Practicum. This program enables students to
apply critical thinking as they prepare for further higher education or an international career.

English Plus: Educational Leadership and Management
Manassas Campus and Woodbridge Campus
Educators and professionals with international administrative or teaching experience will have an
opportunity to acquire a basic understanding of U.S. education and to improve oral and written
communication skills. The course is taught by current and former higher-education administrators who
bring their own personal knowledge and experience. Participants will be able to bring their own
professional experience to the theories and concepts presented in the core seminar. Course work
includes practice in academic skills such as critical thinking, conversation, comprehension, listening, and
pronunciation.

Woodbridge Campus
An opportunity to acquire a basic understanding of American culture and to improve oral and written
communication skills, this course exposes students to aspects of U.S. history and government, cultural
values, and life in the United States. It enables participants to apply critical thinking skills as they engage

in activities with native and non-native English-speaking students. Course work will include academic
skills such as conversation, listening comprehension, oral presentation and discussion, and pronunciation.
