completed application and send to the School of English, Drama and Film, University College
Dublin. The two referees chosen by you should be in a position to provide an assessment of your
suitability for advanced study and research.
Applicants who have been awarded both BA and MA qualifications at UCD do not need to submit
academic references.

Please remember to include the following documents with your application:
a) a proposal statement (4-6 pages)
b) a bibliography of the major scholarly publications in the subject you wish to research
c) a proposed schedule for completing your research and thesis within three to four years
d) one copy of the official transcript(s) of your academic qualifications
If you are not a UCD graduate, please also remember to include the following documents with your
application:
e) one copy of your birth certificate
f) two sealed letters of reference, testifying to your academic abilities. Reference forms are
available with this application form.
g) One copy of certificates of any additional qualifications, or evidence of any expertise, which may
be advantageous to your studies (e.g. languages, IT skills, professional skills)
All applicants must include an application fee of €20. There is no deadline for MLitt/PhD
applications, and applications are assessed throughout the year. If accepted you may commence
your studies in September, January or April.
