The CONSTITUTION of the
AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE of the STUDENT ALUMNI
LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
Revised April 7, 2008
Article I.
Name
The name of the organization shall be the Ambassadors
Committee; hereinafter referred to as Ambassadors.
Article II.
Affiliations
Ambassadors is supported by and sponsored through the
Iowa State University Alumni Association. Ambassadors
is a subcommittee of the Student Alumni Leadership
Council and is also governed by the CONSTITUTION AND
BY-LAWS of the STUDENT ALUMNI LEADERSHIP COUNCIL.
Ambassadors is also instrumental in fostering
membership within the Student Alumni Association, of
which all members of Ambassadors are members. The
Ambassadors Committee chooses to abide by all rules
and regulations administered by Iowa State University
and the Iowa State University Alumni Association.
Article III.
Purpose
The Ambassadors Committee plans campus tours and
campus activities including Beat Iowa week, Career
Preview Days, campus BBQ’s, and administers SALC’s
participation in VEISHEA and Winterfest.
Article IV.
Membership
Section 1. Enrollment
All members must be currently enrolled at Iowa
State University and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0
or above. Officers and members may not be on
conduct probation.
Section 2. Membership in the Student Alumni
Association
All members must also be members of the Iowa
State University Student Alumni Association.
Membership in SAA is free to members who sell
their quota of SAA memberships.

Section 3. Statement of Non-discrimination
Membership in Ambassadors shall be open to all
students at Iowa State University.
Section 4. Dues
There are no dues required to be a member of
Ambassadors
Section 5. Ambassadors Committee Selection
The selection of the Ambassadors Committee will
be based on an application and interview process
for all applicants. The interview panel shall
consist of the current Ambassadors Co-Chairs, the
adviser, and the SALC President and Vice
President. All applications and interviews for
the Ambassadors Committee will take place in
April.
Section 6. Expectations
All Ambassadors are held to the following Code of
Conduct:
A. I understand that my behavior at all times
should be such that it reflects credit to the
university, the Alumni Association, and SALC.
B. I understand that members must maintain a
minimum 2.0 GPA to hold an SALC position.
C. I agree to use language that is polite and
professional, especially in the office and at
SALC or Alumni Association events.
D. I agree to make an effort to keep the SALC
office neat.
E. I understand that my commitment as a member
of SALC means that I will make an effort to
participate in all events that SALC sponsors.
F. I will not attend an official Iowa State
University Alumni Association or Student Alumni
Leadership Council event having consumed alcohol
or controlled substances; nor will I consume
alcoholic beverages or controlled substances
during these events.

G. I agree to dress neatly and appropriately for
events as designated by SALC. I will not wear
SALC attire to bars, parties, or other activities
where alcohol and/or controlled substances are
being consumed, or where any other illegal
activity transpires.
H. I agree to respect the rights of others
through my manners, language, and general
conduct. I agree to be honest and nondiscriminatory and to not take unfair advantage
of others. I will act ethically and with
fairness.
Section 7. Attendance
All members must attend all Ambassadors meetings.
More than one unexcused absence will result in
membership termination. The SALC adviser,
President, or committee co-chair may grant
excused absences.
Section 8. Removal of Ambassadors
A. Members may be sanctioned or removed by the
adviser for a violation of the code of conduct or
the rules outlined in this constitution.
Section 9. Filling Vacancies.
Vacancies may be filled by the process outlined
in Article IV Section 5.
Article V.
Duties and Position Descriptions
Section 1. Co-Chairs
The Ambassador Committee Co-Chairs are
responsible for coordinating the efforts of the
Ambassador Committee, including planning and
executing campus barbeques, career preview days,
Beat Iowa week, spirit days, and SALC’s
participation in VEISHEA and Winterfest. In
addition, the Ambassador Committee Co-Chairs are
responsible for:
A. Selecting and training members of the
Ambassador Committee
B. Conducting weekly meetings of the Ambassador
Committee

C. Along with the Adviser, serving as the Risk
Managers for all events and programs of
Ambassadors
D. Attending and supporting committee events
E. Attending weekly Executive Council meetings
F. Holding weekly office hours (5 hours/week)
G. Conducting a transition for the incoming
Ambassador Committee Co-Chairs
Section 2. Committee Positions
A. Business Coordinator (1 person)
1. Work with Vice President of SALC on the
budget for the committee.
2. Input receipts into Quicken to keep budget
up to date
3. Responsible for obtaining purchase orders
and other forms of payment
B.
Marketing Coordinator
1. Take and distribute meeting minutes
2. Proof-read and approve all marketing done by
the committee
3. Work with the SALC Director of Marketing to
update the website
4. Organize marketing efforts at Residence Hall
meetings and for Greek dinner announcements
C.
Beat Iowa Week & BBQs (3)
1. Beat Iowa Week
a. Occurs during the week prior to the
Iowa/Iowa State football game
b. Organize event coordinated with football
team to raise Cyclone Spirit
c. Partner with Dogtown and the Daily to
sell Beat IOWA t-shirts
d. Work with the Daily to publicize the
weekly festivities and the sale of Beat
IOWA t-shirts
e. Plan weekly activities such as BBQ,
trivia challenge, eating contest, t-shirt
day, etc.
2. BBQ’s
a. Renewal and Welcome Back BBQ and Beat IOWA
BBQ
b. Both held on central campus for SAA
members who are renewing their membership
or are members already

c. Order food, reserve tents, sound
equipment, and trash cans, advertising,
and being at the actual event.
d. Contact Alpha Gamma Rho for grilling and
use of their ice troughs (talk to Dan
Determan)
e. Work with Shellie Henry, Asst. Director of
Membership and Marketing, and Beth Purdy,
Student Director of SAA
f. Planning should begin four (4) weeks prior
to the BBQ
D.
VEISHEA/Winterfest (3)
1. Build a nontraditional float for the VEISHEA
parade
a. Begin sketches of parade early spring
semester
b. Begin building 3-4 weeks prior to date of
parade
c. Find flat bed/hayrack and storage
facility
d. Attend float building meeting
e. Spend the night with the float the night
before the parade and march in the parade
f. All SALC members to help but Ambassadors
is first and foremost responsible
g. Organize a game for CY’s Big Top on
central campus
h. Order prizes from Oriental Trading
2. Winterfest:
a. Attend Winterfest Meetings
b. Coordinate SALC’s participation
c. Organized clothing drive in the past with
other student organizations
E. Alumni Tours/Alumni Days, Destination Iowa
State, & Spirit Days (3)
1. Alumni Days
a. Alumni Days is when alumni from 50+ years
out come back to campus for a reunion.
Different events are planned for each
day.
b. Revise the applications for Alumni Days
workers, and for helping out at the
event. Duties range from driving shuttle
vans, greeting the alumni, and just being
a guide to alumni.

c. Create the schedule, coordinating all of
the different workers for each event.
d. Meet with the SALC adviser to discuss
details of the event.
e. Planning should begin at least 1-2 months
prior to actual event.
2. Alumni Tours
a. Find out the day, time, place (to be
picked up or meeting at)
b. Find SALC Ambassador committee members to
guide the tours
c. Make sure everyone guiding the tour is
knowledgeable about all the details and
is capable of giving a tour
d. Tours are normally done in pairs or more
if there is a large group.
3. Spirit Days
a. Contact SALC secretary to order the
birthday cake and send out SALC e-mail to
salc08@iastate.edu reminding everyone the
day before
b. Increase attendance at spirit days
c. Ambassador Retreat – plan and make all
arrangements
4. Destination Iowa State
a. Create a presentation about campus
traditions that is shown at DIS
b. Coordinate Ice Cream Sundaes for Late
Night at the MU
c. Work with Admissions office to coordinate
d. Planning should be complete before
leaving for summer and then week or two
before classes start
F.
Career Preview Days (4)
1. Coordinate with SALC adviser and Alumni
Association to acquire Alumni to be mentors
2. Create application and distribute amongst
ISU students
3. Pair up students with alumni in their area
of study
4. Call many business’ in order to match
students
Section 3. Adviser
The adviser of Ambassadors shall be the Assistant
Director for Student Programs for the Iowa State

University Alumni Association and a non-voting
member of the committee. The adviser will be
present at all Ambassadors Committee meetings and
events, and serve as a liaison between
Ambassadors, the Alumni Association, and the
University community. The adviser will be
responsible for:
A. Overseeing the selection and training the
Ambassadors
B. Attending and providing advice and insight at
all meetings, events, and programs of
Ambassadors
C. Assisting the Committee Co-Chairs in regard to
their Risk Management duties
D. Attending and supporting all events and
programs of Ambassadors
E. Attending weekly Ambassadors meetings
F. Holding office hours with the Ambassadors CoChairs as needed
G. Personally providing written authorization for
all financial decisions, allocations, and
disbursements of Ambassadors
H. Administering any and all disciplinary actions
with the assistance of the Ambassadors CoChairs and the SALC President
Article VI.
Meetings
Section 1. Ambassadors Committee Meetings
Ambassadors shall meet weekly or as necessary to
conduct the business of Ambassadors.
Section 2. Special Meetings
Special meetings of Ambassadors shall be called
at any time by the Co-Chairs, Adviser, or by any
three members of the committee. All members must
be sufficiently notified in advance of any such
meeting.
Section 3. Quorum
Quorum shall consist of three-fourths of the
committee.
Article VII. Finance
All monies belonging to Ambassadors shall be deposited
and disbursed through the bank accounts established

for SALC by the ISU Alumni Association. All funds
must be deposited within 24 hours after collection.
The staff Adviser must approve and sign each
expenditure before payment in accordance with Alumni
Association policies.
Article VIII.
Amendments
The CONSTITUTION of the AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE shall be
amended by a two-thirds vote of the committee. All
members shall be notified one regular meeting in
advance of any proposed changes.
Article IX.
Ratification
The CONSTITUTION of the AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE shall be
ratified by a two-thirds vote of the committee.
