To be the premier enrollment services team recruiting, admitting, enrolling, and financially
assisting students by:






utilizing best practices;
using data and feedback to drive decisions;
providing quality, efficient and timely service;
capitalizing on cutting-edge technology;
providing a welcome, inviting and inclusive environment;
fostering collaborative partnerships/relationships.
5. Highlights/major accomplishments for the year
















31,879 contacts made with prospective students and parents in the 2010-11 academic
year.
Increased our applications from 3,803 to 5,798 for the 2010-11 academic years.
UW-Stout has the 4th highest conversion rate in the UW System.
Brought in largest student body: 9,337 students, improved academic profile slightly.
Implemented Recruitment Plus –new CRM included training of OIE, Graduate school and
CI/DE staff.
Achieved US News and World Report top tier ranking for Midwest regional Universities.
Implemented ImageNow to process freshmen applications on the front end and use less
paper.
Expanded Telerecruiting efforts of outreach to admitted/prospective students.
Coordinate and execute new office renovation and move into new location in Millennium.
Hired an MSEP/IL recruiter--targeted outreach to MSEP states and IL, based on MSEP
specialized tuition agreement and high school graduating information which has IL and MI
with twice the high school graduates as MN or WI.
International recruiter hired, International applications increased by 76%, admits by 107%
Hired the Covenant Coordinator position.
Return to WI program received approval from Chancellor for implementation.
Stout Scholars program: creation and inaugural event held Feb. 11th.
Revised current Chancellors scholarship and created a Polytechnic scholarship.
Increased the number of students admitted into STEM majors by 119 over 2010.


Participated in a LEAN process to increase the effectiveness of our application
processing
Imaging of all applications for freshman and transfer students to save paper.
Veterans (Focus 2015)
 61.1% growth in veteran students from 2007-2010; highest % growth within UW System.
 UW-Stout was named as a Military Friendly School in 2011 by G.I. Jobs magazine, meaning
it ranked in the top 15 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities.
 UW-Stout 78th on the list of the 101 best schools in the U.S. for veterans in Military Times.
 Successful hiring of two student veteran’s assistants
 Creation of veteran’s recruitment website and brochure
 Article about veteran’s at UW-Stout
 Brought all files into compliance after veterans audit
 Hosted a Veteran’s open house about services on February 1, 2011.
Transfer students (Focus 2015 University Priority)
 Campus Preview Day for transfer students held March 22, 2011 with 29 students and many
parents.
 Transfer Advisor day held for UW and WTCS, November 12, 2010 with 18 participants: 8
technical college reps, 7 reps from UW-Colleges and 3 from EOC.
 Document design class created posters with pull off cards as part of a service learning
project.
 Phi Theta Kappa outreach for two year honors students targeted approach, two
scholarships awarded for first time
 Outreach to MN two year colleges
 Cross-training for Assistant Director on transfer policies to assist in effective service
Marketing
 All academic program flyers were updated
 Serve on campus-wide web redesign committee
 Polytechnic focused mailing to all of our peer institutions to assist in our US News and
World report ranking where we went from third tier not ranked to 1st tier top 70 in the
Midwest.
 Direct marketing to students in IL with comparison costs.
 Communication plan developed with goal of monthly contact for admitted students and
some targeted pieces for prospective students.
 Three Collegeweek Live (virtual college fair) events held .
 Multiple email marketing campaigns utilizing Zinch and Blue Hue were done for Plastics
Engineering, Cognitive Science and Supply Chain.
Inclusive Excellence



Grant received for diversity reading group to focus on “The Latehomecomer” and “Apple Pie
& Enchiladas” to support our knowledge base for two targeted recruitment groups.
Received funding for an AmeriCorp/VISTA to assist with outreach for underrepresented
populations working with the HMAA and El Centro.
State Farm grant funded for “College 101” for parents of first-generation and students of
color.







Created a multicultural admission website with a Hmong & Spanish translated section
Use of Google Translate for all web pages with new web redesign.
Increased the number of minority applications by 30% (130 apps) over 2009.
Increased the number of admitted minority students by 48% (68 more) over 2010.
Multicultural Preview day held April 15, 2011 with 130 in attendance
Expanded our on-campus group visit program from 4 in 2009 to 35 in 2011 which attracted
1296 students and 111 staff.
Seven Inclusive excellence videos completed (five to focus on various ethnic areas).
Environmental sustainability Requested a new “hydration station” to be added to the atrium of Millennium which
is included as part of the tour for all prospective students and families.
 Admissions will be changing our purchasing of Styrofoam cups to biodegradable
ones to support the sustainability commitment.
 Sustainability coordinator did training with all tour guides about on-campus
initiatives.
 All offices within Enrollment Services changed fonts to minimize printing.


Goal 4: Recruit and retain a diverse university population

Increase our International population by 10% (Admissions/OIE)
Intentional outreach to IL to increase our current IL population by 25% (Admissions)
Create an intentional marketing plan to 22-25 ACT students to increase our overall profile
(Admissions)
Follow up with all students of color to increase this population by 2% and cut our
incomplete applications by 50% (Admissions)
Goal 5: Foster a collegial, trusting and tolerant campus climate

Conduct three training events with the Enrollment services staff to foster better working
relationships within our unit (Enrollment Services)
Goal 6: Provide safe, accessible, effective, efficient and inviting physical facilities
•
Complete the set up of the Admissions office in Millennium hall including using technology
with our campus presentations (Admissions)
