4-H & NC Cooperative Extension: 4-H offers clubs, staff-led programs and projects, summer
camps, teen programs, leadership experiences, after-school programs, “Best Friends” mentoring
program, and a Teen Advisory Council. 4-H youth, along with trained adult and teen volunteers, gain
knowledge, skills and experience that help them become responsible citizens and leaders. 4-H pairs
with NC State to offer educational youth programs during the school year and in the summer. Wake
County Cooperative Extension's unique partnership with Wake County Human Services enables 4-H to
reach a diverse and growing group of youth.

El Pueblo, Inc. Youth Leadership Programs: Programs such as No Fumo and the Youth Advocacy
Forum assist youth in developing leadership and community organizing skills that they can apply to
any issue that they find important. “No Fumo” takes a strengths-based "holistic" approach to tobacco
use prevention and promote cessation of tobacco use among youth, promote smoke-free environments,
and help eliminate health disparities among Latinos related to tobacco use.

Harriet B. Webster Student Ambassador Leadership Program: Aims to develop leadership skills,
personal strengths, and foster academic, social, and emotional growth among middle and high school
students. Guest speakers and leadership skills training is provided for students. Students participate in
a community service project. Parents attend workshops regarding issues of concern.

Life Skills Counseling: Provides multi-disciplinary programs aimed at the emotional, social,
educational, and behavioral challenges of youth and their families. Source of funding is Medicaid and
private insurance. Student has to be referred and receive an assessment; afterwards, the teams will
determine the types of services needed.

Reaching Your Goals, Inc.: Community-based outreach program where a variety of services are
provided to youth who are middle and high school age. Services include: mentoring, academic
tutoring and alternative learning strategies, and expression through dynamic therapy settings: Poetry
Therapy, Sign Language Therapy, and Hip Hop Therapy. RYG also has a residential group home for
more intensive needs. RYG also offers a scholarship to graduating seniors who plan to attend a
Historically Black College/University.

Therapeutic Connections: Services provided to young males and females ages 4-18. Once referral is
made, an appointment will be set with the intake person. The individual has to be diagnosed first
before receiving any services. The case will then be passed on to the team who will authorize for case
management services first and then any other services necessary. Funding sources: Medicaid and
Health Choice; no private insurance.

Wake Teen: Provides affordable and accessible medical and mental health services to young adults

YMCA Black Achiever’s Program: Central purpose is to help African-American youth set and
pursue high education and career goals. The program includes tutoring, mentoring, career clusters,
college tutors, self-esteem workshops, personal counseling, family activities, college preparation,

Youth Enhancement Academy w/Triangle East Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America:
Comprehensive mentoring program geared for African-American male youth in grades 9-12. The
program is based on the “Four for the Future” foundation which includes Mentoring, Education, Health
