Position Description
The position of Madison Class Challenge (MCC) Student Director resembles an advanced paid internship.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Madison Fund, the MCC Student Director should anticipate working
approximately 10 – 20 hours a week at the Leeolou Alumni Center or remotely as agreed upon by supervisor.
The responsibilities of the MCC chairperson include, but are not limited to:
 Work with the Madison Fund Assistant Director with advertising, interviewing and selecting a MCC
Steering Committee
 Prepare and facilitate Steering Committee training in the spring and fall
 Monitor progress of MCC Steering Committee and programs and report status weekly to the Assistant
Director
 Lead all MCC Steering Committee Meetings
 Continually seek to improve aspects of the MCC program and facilitate growth
 Set a positive, optimistic and energetic tone through the school year
 Assist with hiring the next MCC Student Director
 Additionally, the MCC Student Director will oversee the activities of a student run Steering Committee,
ensuring that the following objectives are accomplished:
o Recruit MCC Challenge Captains
o Coordinate training for MCC Challenge Captains
o Facilitate MCC gift designation(s), payment methods and payment schedule
o Design MCC publicity materials to include press release, brochure, letters, advertisements
and telefund script.
o Communicate with Deans, Vice Presidents, Senior Class President and other faculty, staff
and students
o Develop and plan with the steering committee a detailed calendar of MCC events
o Secure and distribute incentives
Qualified applicants should meet the following criteria:
1. JMU full-time student in good academic standing
2. Motivated, self-starter, highly organized
3. Demonstrated leadership skills
4. Reliable and flexible
5. Able to handle many projects at once
6. Awareness of your own strengths and weaknesses and willingness to enhance and improve as
necessary
7. Team player
8. Computer skills preferred
9. Public Speaking and group training/facilitating skills a plus
10. Good sense of humor!
11. A strong passion for James Madison University and a commitment to the its long-term success
