2015 Wisconsin Mayflower Society Scholarship Requirements
The Wisconsin Mayflower Society Scholarship is open to any high school senior who is
a resident of the State of Wisconsin and a Citizen of the United States, and who is
planning to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational institution in the fall
of 2015. For 2015, there will be two scholarships offered; one for $1000.00 and one for
$500.00. The scholarships will be payable to the students’ accounts at the colleges or
universities in which they have enrolled and mailed to such university in the fall.
Required Application Attachments:
1. The completed application form with a resume listing extracurricular activities (both in
school and community), employment, honors or awards, and leadership opportunities you
have been involved in during high school.
2. A Mayflower essay on the following topic: Choose one of the Pilgrim leaders. Pretend
that you are that individual. Give some examples as to what you were thinking and
talking about when you were crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Plymouth. Please refer to
some of the following topics in your essay which should pertain to life on the
Mayflower, before you landed. What aspects of the Mayflower Compact appealed to
you and why? Had you thought about, and made any decisions, as to how the first
village should be laid out and what type of shelter you might need? Were you concerned
with the adequacy of provisions once you landed? Did you anticipate a high mortality
rate in the first year? Your essay must include specific sources to document your facts.
Essay should be between 300-500 words.
Essays will be evaluated for content, organization, style, and grammar. All entries must
be typewritten and sources cited in appropriate bibliographic style.

3. In addition to being clearly written, your essay should be properly documented using a
recognized standardized format for citations (e.g., APA) that should appear at the bottom of
your essay, including a bibliography which documents the sources you have used.
4. Two letters of recommendation from non-family members: one which may be from a
teacher or counselor and one from a friend, church or scout leader, etc.

5. A copy or print out of your official notification of SAT and/or ACT scores.
6. Information on your Mayflower ancestor, if applicable.
The deadline for application is April 15, 2015. Any applications received after the
deadline date or incomplete will not be considered.

Selection Process: The Mayflower Scholarship Committee consisting of three members will
annually review applications. The committee will select the winners for the 2014 Wisconsin
Mayflower Society Scholarship Awards. All winners will receive a letter of confirmation by
June 1, 2015.
Disbursement: Upon notification of enrollment in an accredited college, university, or
vocational institution, a payment will be sent to be deposited into the student’s tuition
account.
