PROCEDURE FOR ASSOCIATE FACULTY ANNUAL CONTRACTS (CURRENT RATE OF PAY)
Definition: Annual contracts at the current associate faculty rate of pay would provide associate faculty
with a course load of at least 50 percent for three consecutive quarters (normally fall, winter and spring).
The duties of associate faculty as described in the current negotiated agreement (Appendix A, Article III,
Section F.2.b.) would remain the same.
Eligibility: Any associate faculty member at Step 3 or higher on the associate faculty salary grid, who
has taught a course load of at least 50 percent for six consecutive quarters (exclusive of summer *) at
Shoreline Community College may apply. Such appointments are for one year only and may be renewed
with the approval of the College President. Full-time faculty members are not eligible.
Procedure: By the end of the first week of spring quarter, eligible associate faculty members submit
letters of interest to the College’s Office of Human Resources to be considered for contracts effective in
the next academic year. By the same deadline, unit administrators shall make request for the number of
associate faculty annual contracts desired within his/her unit to the appropriate vice president.
By the end of the second week of spring quarter, the Office of Human Resources shall distribute a list of
eligible applicants to the appropriate Vice President in time for fall quarter course assignments.
Selection: Contracts shall be awarded based on fair and equitable treatment among qualified applicants.
The appropriate vice president, in consultation with the unit administrator, shall determine who shall be
offered Associate Faculty Annual Contracts. These offers of nontenurable employment shall not be
construed as providing any expectation of re-employment beyond the specific time limits of the
contracted period. Associate Faculty Annual Contracts are not applicable toward tenure and notice of
nonrenewal shall not be required.
