Graduation Deadlines

REGISTRATION FOR GRADUATION - All Prospective graduates must
be enrolled in the Graduate School the semester they plan to graduate.
All prospective graduates must have a Registration for Graduation Card
on file in the Graduate School
February 6
Submit Applications for Renewal Of Courses and Transfer of Credit.
PLEASE NOTE: Degree requirements for the master’s and doctorate
must be completed within a maximum of five and seven years,
respectively, from the date of initial registration. Courses taken more than
five ad seven years prior to applying for graduation must be revalidated
by means of a written exam administered by the department, and
restoration of course credit form filled out and submitted to the Dean

MASTER’S CANDIDATES – Submit Application for Admission to
Candidacy

Ph.D. CANDIDATES – Submit request for oral defense examination. A
final copy of the dissertation must accompany the request. Please submit
original print. Xeroxed copies are not acceptable. Oral defense
examinations will be scheduled only after dissertations have been checked
thoroughly and approved by the Office of Educational Affairs
PLEASE NOTE: A doctoral candidate must be admitted to candidacy no
later that the semester before he/she expects the degree.

Ph.D. CANDIDATES - In order to allow students ten working days
following their defense examinations to make any necessary corrections in
their dissertations, this is the last date on which defense examinations will
be scheduled.

THESES/DISSERTATIONS & CERTIFICAITON FORMS ARE DUE.
PLEASE NOTE: All degree candidates must submit the final copies of
their theses or dissertations to the Graduate School no later than ten
working days after the oral defense.
All Financial Obligations Must BE Settled With The Office of Student
Accounts By This Date.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE EXAMINATIONS: In some departments, the student is required
to demonstrate reading proficiency in foreign language departments of
Howard University or via the Graduate School Foreign Language Test
(GSFLT) administered by E.T.S. For information concerning date and
time of GSFLT, contact Mr. Morgan McDonald, Counseling Center, Room
