Moreland City Council is pleased to announce a scholarship program that seeks to encourage and attract midwives
to undertake postgraduate Maternal and Child Health studies. This program provides an opportunity for those who
would like to develop their nursing career in Local Government as a Maternal and Child Health nurse.
The scholarship program has been developed to meet the growing demands of Moreland’s Maternal and Child
Health Service in a context of an increasing birth rate and an ageing workforce across the Maternal and Child
Health sector.
A financial scholarship of up to $3,500 (one-off payment) is available to a registered nurse with midwifery
endorsement who undertake the accredited Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing (Child Family and
Community Health) at Latrobe University or the Graduate Diploma or Masters in Nursing (Child or Family Health) at
RMIT.
The scholarship will be offered in 2015 to applicants commencing courses at either Latrobe University or RMIT in
2015.The ongoing future of the Scholarship Program will be dependent on the success of the initial funding
outcomes.
The Scholarship will be awarded for financial assistance to cover the cost of course fees only. Other expenses
such as registration, prescribed textbooks and those associated with study i.e. travel expenses are to be borne by
the recipient.
The successful recipient of the scholarship will be required to complete the course within two years of
commencement to allow for a mix of either part-time or full-time study. Upon completion of studies, recipients must
be willing to commit to work for the Moreland City Council subject to employment vacancies for 12 months.
If recipients are unable to complete their studies in the required time frame, or subsequently cannot commit to
employment with Moreland City Council, there may be a requirement to repay the scholarship.
