Please note the list of financial aid/scholarships below may apply to all MPT students but please
check for other programs what different sources might be available as they may not all apply to
DPT or PhD students.
UNC Division of Physical Therapy
Charlotte Money Beatty Memorial Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: MPT students; all students: first to minority students; second, desire to pursue career
in pediatrics
Criteria: ability, based on scholastic performance; financial need
Process: All eligible students will be reviewed by Faculty Scholarship Cte.
Amount: varies
Rebecca Irene Sande Scholarship Fund
Deadline: FAFSA to UNC Student Aid Office January 10 year prior to admissions
(www.fafsda.ed.gov); Student Aid Report to Division of Physical Therapy by February 15.
Eligibility: MPT1 Students
Criteria: Financial need (60%) and MPT Admissions Process Scores (40%)
Process: All eligible students will be reviewed by Faculty Scholarship Cte.
Amount: Approx. $10,000 total award

Eligibility: MPT 1 students
Criteria: financial need and scholarship
Process: faculty selects one recipient

National

Mary McMillan Award for Academic Excellence

Eligibility: MPT 2
Criteria: superior scholastic performance, past productivity, evidence of
potential contribution to physical therapy; APTA member
Process: faculty selects a nominee
Amount: $3000
Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence
Deadline: December 1
Eligibility: MPT 2
Criteria: high scholastic achievement; contributions is minority affairs and
potential for superior achievements in physical therapy: APTA
Process: faculty selects a nominee
Amount: varies; minimum of $1500
2. Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) www.asahp.org
Scholarship of Excellence
Deadline: April - May
Eligibility: one DAHS student; each division may nominate a student;
must have completed at least one semester
Criteria: academic achievements, service to the institution and community leadership,
extracurricular activities, evidence of strong communication skills
Process: faculty selects a MPT nominee; DAHS committee selects one nominee from all the
Divisions
Amount: $1000
Secretary's Award
Deadline: January - February
Eligibility: all DAHS students
Criteria: an interdisciplinary project which focuses on an approach in
which students from 2 or more disciplines collaborate with a goal
of fostering inter-professional interactions that improve health of
the individual patient or community and enhance the practice of
each discipline
Process: ASAHP selects the 10 best national papers
Amount: $7500-$15,000
3. AMBUCS Scholars Program www.ambucs.com, www.fastweb.com
Deadline: January - April
Eligibility: PT, OT, Audiology, SLP students
Criteria: financial need; intent to practice physical therapy in U.S.
Process: on-line applications; semi-finalists complete more
applications; finalists awarded

Criteria: recognition of demonstrated excellence in both an academic program and within the
community

5. AAPT Scholarship

Eligibility: minority MPT student

North Carolina:
1. North Carolina Physical Therapy Association (NCPTA)
Deadline: April
Eligibility: MPT students
Criteria: financial need; scholastic achievement; community
service; professional involvement at school, district, state
Process: NCPTA Committee selects; interview required
Amount: three options are scholarships, long term loans, short
term emergency loans
2. Dr. Grover W. White Scholarship Program (Community Foundation of
Gaston County)
Deadline: early March
Eligibility: MPT students who are residents of Gaston, Cleveland, or Lincoln county of N.C., or
York Count of S. C.
Criteria: minimum of 3.5 GPA undergraduate; serious interest in field, evidence of applicant's
choosing the profession with motivation of service to people; financial need considered
Process: committee selection
Amount: $1500 renewable annually
3. North Carolina Student Loan Program for Health, Science, and Mathematics
