What is SIS?
SIS is a part-time AmeriCorps program that offers scholarships to students who serve
their community
SIS goal is to get more college students involved in serving their community.
SIS encourages members to develop their civic skills and attitudes as well as their
transferable work skills while serving.
SIS believes that if a student has a positive SIS experience they will more likely in the
future continue to serve their community (research backs this up)
Who can participate? (tailor this section to your audience)
Just about any student who serves their community through:
 Volunteering at a legitimate non-profit, government or education institution.
 Completing their non-paid internship/practicum at a non-profit organization
 Student teachers teaching at a Title 1 school, in Special Education, ESL/Bilingual
Education, or Math and Science Education
 Completing their service-learning requirements for their class
 Community Service Work Studies (only ones who can “double-dip”)
SIS Programs student can enroll in:
300 hour = $1000 (1 year)
450 hour = $1250 (1 year)
900 hour = $2362 (2 years)
