Director of International Student, Scholar & Internship Services
University of Richmond
Richmond, VA
International Student and Scholar Services KC
I am the Director of International Student, Scholar & Internship Services and have been working
at the University of Richmond for almost seven years. I assist international students and scholars
with immigration, employment, health insurance, cultural, practical and academic matters. I also
manage summer internship programs overseas. My interest in the international field began at an
early age. As a Thai-American growing up in Virginia Beach, I appreciated the challenges and
rewards of being a part of two cultures. After I graduated from Wesleyan University, I taught
English in Thailand at a technical college and a refugee camp. When I returned to the United
States, I went to New York University for a master's degree in international education to add an
academic perspective to my overseas experience. Part of my coursework involved studying Thai
culture and Buddhism as an exchange student in Thailand at one of UR’s partner institutions,
Thammasat University. After graduate school, I moved to San Francisco, where I worked as
program coordinator for cross-cultural non-profits. I am conversationally fluent in Thai.

International Student and Scholar Coordinator
University of Puget Sound
Tacoma, Washington
Working with international students and scholars at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma,
Washington since 2003 has provided me with the opportunity to promote internationalization of
our campus. I am engaged with recruiting, immigration and cultural support as well as advising
continuing students. The experience of living and teaching ESL in Mexico fueled my passion to
work with international students and was inspired by the variety of students from Taiwan, Japan
and Korea studying with my father, a faculty member at Puget Sound. As the International
Programs liaison to the campus community, including the Office of Admission, I coordinate
visiting scholars and act as an advisor to the International Club and International Student
Mentors. Family living in France and San Francisco provide additional incentive for travel and
the chance to explore markets, mountains and exotic foods in remote pockets of the world.

Assistant Director of Admission/Director of International Outreach
Mount Holyoke College
South Hadley, MA.
I am the Director of International Outreach in the Office of Admission at Mount Holyoke
College. I read international applications primarily from African and East Asian countries and
domestic applications from the Southeast. Before coming to Mount Holyoke College, I worked
in the International Student and Scholar Services at Stony Brook University. Before that, I had
been studying at Hamilton College toward my BA in Religious Studies and Chinese. My study
abroad experience in Beijing under the Associate Colleges in China program was transformative
and enlightening and happened to coincide with the SARS outbreak. I came back with a host of
new goals which included a desire to search for ways to help others have similarly meaningful
overseas study experiences minus the epidemic outbursts and hopefully at least preserve my hardearned semi-fluent Mandarin skills. I live in Amherst, Mass and spend much of my free time
teaching myself to play the mandolin.
