JOB PURPOSE:
The Deputy Dean will, with the Dean, provide overall academic and professional leadership
of a complex and diverse portfolio in the Business School. The Deputy Dean will also
deputise for the Dean as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide academic leadership, development and management of the Business School in line
with University polices

With the Business School’s Senior Management Team (BSMT) develop the School’s
strategic and operational plans with specific responsibility for developing and implementing
operational plans, policies and procedures to operationalise the strategic plan

Chair the Business School Quality Standards Committee and other internal and external
committees and validation panels as required

Deputise for the Dean in his/her absence

Provide inspirational leadership in learning, teaching and assessment, innovation, quality
assurance and enhancement, and staff development in the Business School

Lead on enhancing the quality of student experience in the Business School

Provide line management to the Heads of Subject areas and Business School Administrative
Manager

With the Business School Management Team (BSMT) play a significant role in external
engagement

Manage change and be flexible and responsive to previously unseen demands from the
Business School and University

With the Business School Management Team (BSMT) review student recruitment and
retention

With the Business School Management Team (BSMT) review the marketing of the Business
School

Undertake a leading role in the Business School Senior Management Team (BSMT)

Lead on selected University-wide developments and take a role in influencing University
Strategy

Represent the Business School on a range of University wide committees

Chair Business School and university committees as required

Engage with external/regional/national bodies to promote University/Business School profile
locally, nationally and internationally

To provide academic leadership in curriculum development
