How to select courses?
You must list the courses you want to take. You should contact the departmental advisor of the course you
want to take. You must do that for each course you want to take. Departmental advisors will inform you
whether the courses are available and appropriate. Please keep in mind that there are quotas on some courses.
You need the approval (signature) of your head of department after you select all your courses. You must
bring a copy of the approved course list (Learning Agreement) to the International Office (ULİK).

How to get residential permit?
All international students in Turkey, regardless of status, must register with, and obtain a Residence Permit
(İkamet Belgesi) from Office for Foreigners ( İstanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü Yabancilar Şubesi). That means after
your arrival when you are sure about your permanent address, you need to apply for a residence permit.
According to the Turkish Government regulations, residence permit application have to be submitted within one
month of your arrival.
Please note that if you fail to depart Turkey by the expiration date on the residence permit document, you will
have to pay a penalty.
These are the documents required by Office for Foreigners (Yabancilar Şubesi):
1- ) Copy of your Acceptance Letter
2- ) Student identity paper. (Given by International Office)
3- ) 4 Photos (passport size)
4- ) Copy of the first and the last pages of your passport.
5- ) Your permanent address in Istanbul.
6- ) Health Insurance **** You have to have ‘Private Health Insurance’, may be your general health insurance
has an agreement with the general health insurance of Turkey, please contact with your general health insurance
service.
Make sure you have an appointment before you go to the Police to get a residential permit. You can make an

Please choose as unit location, YABANCILAR ŞUBE MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ (VATAN)
*If you ve got the residence permit already and you need to extend it, you should choose the police station of the
location where you live (like beşiktaş ilçe emniyet müdürlüğü, beyoğlu ilçe emniyet müdürlüğü ..)

Istanbul Public Transportation Card
Public Transportation Card for Students is given by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality as a card with which you
will be able to pay for all your Istanbul public transportation. Student pays less money for transportation, entrance
of museum, historical places, cinema, theatre, concert, etc. It is a kind of discount card.
How to apply for Public Transportation Card?
Firstly, take your approved Public Transportation Card Application form from the International Office.
Then, you should go to IETT (Istanbul Electronic Tram and Travel System) office in Karaköy. You have to pay
10 Turkish Lira as a card cost. You get your card in a few minutes (according to the density).
