Junior High Homework Policy and Materials

The Junior High Team is committed to providing students with the academic and organizational skills required for success in high school and college.

Students are asked to have two large three-ring binders (the zipper kind are best). One binder will hold the materials they need for their morning classes, the other binder will be for afternoon classes. Students are also asked to have notebooks and folders in several different colors. Each subject area uses a different color (red for English, green for social studies, yellow for math, blue for science, orange for Spanish and purple/black for specialists). We have found that this system of binders and color-coding is a great help to students as they move from room to room throughout the day.

To further support organization, each student has been given an assignment book in which they are expected to write their daily homework assignments. The Junior High

Team asks that a parent or guardian review each day's assignment page and sign it at the bottom. Homeroom teachers will be checking for signatures first thing each morning.

Junior High students can expect to receive three homework assignments every night. The homework schedule is as follows:

Monday - Math, English, Social Studies

Tuesday - Math, English, Science

Wednesday - Math, English, Social Studies

Thursday - Math, English, Science

Friday - Math, English, Social Studies

*Students in band have an additional practice requirement of 100 minutes a week.*

Homework will be checked regularly and can become a significant part of a student's grade.

We are aware that the later start time cuts down on the time for homework. Teachers will make their assignments slightly shorter to accommodate the time change.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Junior High homework policy in general, please contact your students' homeroom teacher.

For questions/concerns regarding a specific subject area, please contact that the teacher for that subject (please refer to the staff list in the back ).

We are looking forward to a fun and successful year in the Junior High!

Thank you for your support!
