RIVERSIDE SECONDARY
DOGWOOD DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ($1000)
1. Dogwood District Scholarships are awarded to graduating students who have specialized and excelled in
any of the following areas:
Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Performing Arts)
Applied Skills (Business Education, Technology Education, Home Economics)
Physical Activity (Athletics, not limited to Physical Education courses)
Second Languages (including Challenge and External Assessments)
Community Service (volunteer activity)
Technical and Trades Training (culinary, carpentry, mechanics)
2. Criteria:
Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Students will be evaluated on marks in
specified courses (and must demonstrate superior achievement), citizenship and work habits. Additional
criteria apply:
Visual Arts: Marks in a minimum of four visual arts courses at the grade 11 and 12 level (two at the grade 12 level)
Performing Arts: Marks in a minimum of 3 courses in performing arts at the grade 11 and 12 level or 2 courses at
the grade 11 and 12 level (at least one at the grade 12 level) and one major performance in the grade 12 year.
Applied Skills: Marks in a minimum of four courses at the grade 11 and 12 level (two at the grade 12 level)
focussing in one area, for example business education, or technology education, etc.
Physical Activity: Marks in a minimum of two PE courses at the grade 11 and 12 level AND participation on at least
one school team in the grade 12 year or one PE course at the grade 11 or 12 level and participation on TWO schools
teams in the grade 12 year.
Second Language: Marks in a minimum of two courses at the grade 11 and 12 level in one language (Beginners or
Introductory courses not included). At least one language course must be at the grade 12 level.
Community Service: Extensive involvement in volunteer service both in school and in the community
Technical and Trades training: Marks in a minimum of four courses at the grade 11 and 12 level (two at the grade
12 level) focussing in one area, culinary, mechanics, carpentry
