Syllabus for French 2 / 9 th grade / Year 4

Teacher: Monsieur Arnaud Gazelle

Expectations:

In the French classroom we will first follow Paisley’s core values which are:

Do the right thing

With the right people

At the right time

At the right place

We will also follow the French class rules :

1/ Come to class prepared to learn: Bring book, workbook, pencil, eraser, and homework (when assigned) to class. Arrive to class in time. Respect classroom time.

2/ Use the French language as much as possible. The best way to become proficient in a language is to use it in every class in meaningful situations.

3/ Study and practice the language. It will be fun if you don’t get behind. Learning and studying your foreign language in middle school will help you go to French II in High School.

4/ Come to class with a positive attitude. Respect yourself and those around you. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

5/ Leave food and beverages for the cafeteria.

Consequences

When a student can not work within the above rules and expectations, I will take the following steps

1 st time: Private discussion with the student. I will go over the rules to clear up miscommunication

2 nd time: Time out inside the classroom.

3 rd time: Time out in another classroom,. Call parent(s) / guardian(s).

4 th time: D1 / Office referral

Tips for learning French in the classroom

Students are expected to do their best and to work hard.

Students will work in a safe environment where everybody feels he/she can contribute to the learning experience. You will learn from me and also from your peers through individual work, pair work, and group work.

Learning a foreign language is about listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Listening: When I or a student speaks, it will be primarily in French. The other students are expected to listen and remain quiet in their seat.

Speaking: When a student speaks, the other students listen respectfully because they can learn from their peers.

Writing: When the student writes a sentence or a paragraph, he/she is expected to remain silent and focus on the task at hand.

Reading: When a student reads aloud, the other students remain silent and listen carefully and respectfully. When all the students read by themselves, they remain silent so they can focus on the French language.

Material needed:

For every class bring a pencil or a pen, an eraser, a notebook /binder, your textbook, and your workbook.
