Home Care Instruction
Wedge Resection of Toe Nail
 Elevate foot regularly to help minimise swelling and pain.
 Take analgesia as instructed on the packet for the first two days
after the surgery, or until pain has eased.
 Wear open toe shoe provided.
 Return to the Day-case Unit the first day after your surgery for first
dressing, if instructed to do so by the consultant. The nurse will
reduce the dressing and instruct you on further wound care.
 Once dressings are totally removed by consultant you will need to
bath toes every other day with saline, which is boiled water plus
one teaspoon of salt – cooled.
 If the wound becomes hot, swollen and red or if you experience
increasing pain please contact the hospital and speak to a nurse.
