Job Description
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Executive Headteacher
Head of School
FUNCTION:
To ensure the safety, well being and good behaviour of pupils during lunchtime, in
accordance with the practices and procedures of the Local Authority and
according to school policy and procedure.
HOURS PER WEEK:
5
DUTIES:

To train, deploy, supervise and manage Supervisory Assistants to ensure effective
supervision of all pupils during the midday break in consultation with the
designated member of the Management Team.

Meet regularly with a member of the Management Team and lunchtime staff to
discuss issues, constraints and training needs to ensure the effective operation of
lunchtime.

Liaise with all staff to ensure smooth arrangements during lunchtime period
including school events.

To supervise pupils in the dining areas, aiding children opening cartons/pots of
food, cleaning spillage and surfaces and disposing of foodstuffs.

Ensuring personal hygiene – washing hands.

Supervision of pupils’ movement around the school premises.

To make midday breaktimes an enjoyable time for all by promoting ‘Positive Play’
ensuring productive lunch time activities for all pupils.

Reporting any significant behavioural incidents over the lunchtime period,
ensuring confidentiality of dealings in school (e.g. ensure child behaviour is not
discussed with parents outside of the school).

First aid, to settle minor incidents and accidents and deal with more serious
incidents and accidents by consulting with another Appointed First Aider.

To carry out other duties relating to lunchtime supervision as required by the
Executive Headteacher.

To apply school policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Senior Midday Supervisor
The person holding this post will be expected to work closely with the senior midday
supervisor and class teachers to foster effective participation of pupils in the social
and academic process of the school.
Experience of:

Working with children.
Knowledge of:

Safeguarding Children.
Personal Qualities:

Able to lead and manage a team

Good organisational skills

Good communication skills

Enjoy being with children

Caring, energetic and enthusiastic with a good sense of fun

Ability to use initiative, is flexible, adaptable and sensitive to the needs of others

Be in good health and have a good attendance record

Have a high level of commitment and motivation
