FAWLEY INFANT SCHOOL
Newsletter: Autumn 3
26th September 2014
Dear Parents
Breaking news… Wolf alert! The Snowy Owls were shocked when they arrived at school on Tuesday morning.
The furniture had been upturned, there was straw everywhere and there were some unusual looking footprints
outside that can only have belonged to a wolf! Look on our Facebook page or the Snowy Owls’ blog to see
a video of the devastation.
The Eagle Owls stumbled upon a trail of leaves and sticks from their classroom the other day. They followed
the mysterious trail and discovered an unidentified parcel by a tree. They eagerly opened it up to find the
book “Stickman”. The children have enjoyed reading the story this week and have spent some time
considering Stickman’s feelings.
On Wednesday Mrs Lowe and Mrs Stephens were invited to attend the annual ‘Beating the Retreat’ event at
the Marchwood Army Base. It was a very special evening and gave them the opportunity to build on the
already strong relations the federation has with the Army and discuss further ways they can support our
schools.
Everything is in place for both our school and Blackfield Primary School to convert to academies on 1st
October 2014. They will form The Inspire Learning Federation and I, along with all the staff, are excited about
the next stage of the Federation’s journey and we look forward to working in partnership with you all for the
benefit of all our children and staff.
ACHIEVEMENTS THIS WEEK - WELL DONE!
Every week a V.I.P certificate is given to one member of every class who has demonstrated
excellence in our school values “UNITE”. This stands for Unity, Nurture, Inspire, Trust and Equality.
These V.I.P children will then have the privilege of wearing a yellow jumper for the week and will be
treated as V.I.Ps. Well done to the following children:
Little Owls: Matthew Rolfe
Snowy Owls:
Leo Bray
Eagle Owls: Anna Armitage
ATTENDANCE – BEST CLASS
Well done to the Little Owls for excellent attendance this week.
Please can I remind you that you need to contact the school if your child is unable to attend
school. If we do not have a reason, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Make it
easier by saving our details on your phone. We pick up text messages from the school mobile very easily!
CAULIFLOWER CHRISTMAS CARDS
You should receive some information with this newsletter about the “Design a Christmas Card
Project”. The FFSA would like to give all children the opportunity to design their own Christmas
card and have it sent off to a company to get it professionally printed in time for Christmas. Please see the
other letter for more information. You can design the card with your child at home or alternatively, you can
attend an art session after school on Monday 6th October from 3.00pm – 4.30pm. Please note that parents
are invited to attend with their child for this session. Please return the slip if you would like to come along,
thank you.
BAG 2 SCHOOL
Thank you to those who brought in a bag of old clothes for the Bag 2 School collection
today. The bags were weighed in the morning and the funds will be added to the Friends
of Fawley School funds. We will let you know how much we received in next week’s
newsletter.
EAGLE OWLS’ TRIP – WEDNESDAY 1st OCTOBER
The Eagle Owls are off to Rhinefield Arboretum next Wednesday as part of their “Stickman”
project. Please can you ensure you have returned the permission slip along with payment
before the trip, thank you. Children need to wear school uniform with sensible footwear for the outside.
Packed lunches need to be booked on Monday so please let Mrs Baldwin know if you would like to order one.
MIDDAY SUPERVISORY ASSISTANT VACANCIES AT BLACKFIELD
Blackfield Primary School has several vacancies for Midday Supervisory Assistants to join their
team of lunchtime staff. If you need a part-time job that fits around your children and gives
you the school holidays at home with them then this will be just right for you. They are looking
for people who are able to inspire and motivate children through positive play during
lunchtime, as well as assisting the children while they are in the dining hall. Details about the
positions and how to apply are on our website (www.fawley.hants.sch.uk). The closing date for applications is
Friday 17th October 2014.
EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITY
Do you enjoy crafts? Why not visit Sticky Fingers at 43 Rumbridge Street, Totton, SO40 9DR
where you can have a go at some different arts and crafts. They are open from 10 am to 2pm
and you can contact them on 0776 113 2910 for further information.
QUEST CLUB FOR EAGLE OWLS
Some of the Eagle Owl children enjoyed their first Quest club this lunchtime. The club is run
by the Baptist, Methodist and Anglican churches in the area and is designed to build a sense
of self worth in the children using biblical principles. The children get the chance to take part
in various creative activities and have a great time at the club. Quest takes place on a Friday lunchtime.
Please let Mrs Baldwin know if your child would like to take part.
CLUBS
Thank you to everyone who handed in a club letter this week. We hope your children have
enjoyed all the new clubs that are on offer to them. There are still spaces left in all of the clubs so
please just speak to Mrs Baldwin in the office if you would like your child to start going. All clubs
are on as usual next week. The pick up point for clubs is round by the hall or by the side Year 1 door.
