Preoperative tests guidance within the National Clinical Guidelines Centre:
The National Clinical Guidelines Centre (NCGC) which is hosted by the Royal College of
Physicians has been commissioned by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
(NICE) to develop an evidence-based clinical guideline for preoperative tests (update).
NICE is a world leader in setting standards for high quality healthcare and for promoting
healthy living. We provide authoritative, evidence-based guidance on the most effective
ways to diagnose, treat and prevent disease and ill health. Our guidance is for the
NHS, local authorities, social care organisations, charities, and anyone with a
responsibility for commissioning or providing healthcare. We support healthcare
professionals and others to make sure that care they provide is of the best possible
quality and offers the best value for money, through our implementation programme.
We collate and accredit high quality healthcare guidance, research and information to
help health professionals deliver the best patient care through NHS Evidence.
We are currently seeking to recruit the following guideline development group
(Preoperative tests) members:

Chairs and members are drawn from the NHS, healthcare professionals, patients and
carers and academia. They do not represent their organisations but are selected for
their expertise, experience of working with multidisciplinary and lay colleagues and
understanding of evidence based healthcare.
All members of guideline development group (Preoperative tests) have equal status,
which reflects the relevance and importance of their different expertise and experience.
They include health professionals and researchers as well as patient and carer
members. All members need to attend regular meetings and undertake background
reading.

multi-professional committees or working groups at a national or regional level. Strong

ability to communicate complex issues to differing audiences. Applicants will preferably

systematic reviews, critical appraisal methods and the role of health economics. Once
appointed, the GDG members will work closely with the NCGC technical team
responsible for reviewing and presenting the evidence to the GDG.

The development phase is scheduled to begin in May 2014 and will continue for
approximately 24 months. During this period the NCGC will host a number of meetings
which will be held every 3-8 weeks. The meetings will be full-day events held in central
London. The first guideline group meeting will be held on 19th May 2014 and the
second on 13th June 2014. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will be able
to prioritise attendance at these meetings. The GDG is supported by the Chair of the
group and by the methodological team at the NCGC which consists of reviewers,
