WELCOME BACK! I hope you had a great summer and that you are looking forward to the 2010-2011
school year. Extra help may be essential for your success in AFM, so please stop by for this help.
I’m usually available before school (beginning at 8:00 a.m.) or after school (until 4:30 p.m.). My web
page will contain a calendar which will list assignments, notes, some quiz dates, test dates, etc.
Please be aware of the following:
1) All math work is to be done in pencil only.
2) Unless other instructions are given, problems must be written down, all work must be shown, and
labels must be given when needed.
Please understand that points might be deducted for failure to follow these and other
directions.
This is a single unit credit course, which means that students will receive a single final mark for this
course and awarded credit only at the end of the course.
You will need the following supplies for this class:
1) One three-ring binder – You are required to keep all dated notes, homework, and quizzes in this
binder.
2) Loose-leaf paper – Use this paper for assignments, placing your name, period, class, assignment
and page number, and date at the top right corner. Do NOT use paper from a wirebound notebook
or paper, which can’t be added to your binder.
3) Several pencils (#2)
4) Red pens, for checking
5) TI 83 or TI 84 series graphing calculator
6) Pack of dividers for 3-ring notebook
It would be very much appreciated if you could donate any of the following to the classroom.
A box of Kleenex, extra pencils
Progress reports will be distributed and can be seen electronically. Use PAM. The following are the
progress report dates: September 15, October 20, November 17, January 12, February 9, March
16, April 20, and May 19.
The grading scale is:

Your grade for the quarter will be determined as follows:
50% Tests: Tests will be given every one to three weeks. These tests will be given for part or all
of a unit. Tests will be announced several days prior to the test date and will need to be taken on
the day they are scheduled. If you are absent the day of the test, but were present for the review,
you will be expected to make it up the day you return. Quarter tests will count as a regular test and
the first semester test will count as two test grades. Any project grades will be included here.
30%
Quizzes: Quizzes will usually be given once a week. Most will be announced, but others will
be pop quizzes. You may drop one grade for a quiz during each quarter, as long as you have taken
each quiz. If you are absent the day of a quiz, this quiz will be dropped.
20%
Daily Work and Homework: Assignments will be given daily and you are responsible for its
completion by a specified time. Late work will not be accepted and a grade of zero will be given. If
you are absent, you are responsible for obtaining the assignment and turning it in, following the
school policy as listed in the agenda.
Student Expectations:
 Be prompt and ready to work when the bell rings.
 Be prepared for class by having all necessary supplies with you.
 Be respectful to everyone and their property.
 No food or drinks in class.
 No cell phones or electronic devices out during class! They must be kept out of sight.
If they sound or are seen during class, I will collect it. You will receive it later.
 You’re dismissed by me at the end of class, not the bell.
 Be attentive, listen, and stay seated. (Raise your hand for recognition, assistance, or to
request to do something out of your seat.)
 Don’t ask to be excused from class to see counselors, make phone calls, go to the
library, see Principals, or most anything else.
Be present in both mind and body each day. It’s a struggle to play “catch up” in math.
Parents, please contact me at if there is ever a concern regarding your child’s progress in my class.
My email address is ofjohnson@wsfcs.k12.nc.us or you can reach me at school at 336-703-6735.
Go to www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/efhs , then faculty/staff, and look under my name to find the
classroom calendar for notes, assignments, etc. I thank you for your support for this year.
Let’s have a great year!
Mrs. Johnson
