Graduate Council Meeting Minutes

Graduate Council Conference Room
Coffelt Hall 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Present: Randy Hoover, Chair; Samuel Adu-Poku, Steve Ausmann, Marty Cala,
Michael Clayton, Patty Hoyson, Anthony Kos, Jake Protivnak, Jamal Tartir, Angie
Urmson Jeffries, Peter Kasvinsky
Excused: Bob Beebe, Rachael J. Pohle-Krauza, Stephanie Tingley
The meeting was called to order once a quorum had been met.
1. The first order of business was the introduction of new and current faculty members
for the FY 2012-2013 Graduate Council.
2. The minutes of the May 8, 2012 were approved as presented.
3. The 2012-2013 Graduate Council election of officers results are as follows:
Graduate Council Chair, Randy Hoover
Graduate Council Secretary, Michael Clayton
Graduate Curriculum Committee Chair, Samuel Adu-Poku
Policy Committee Chair, Jamal Tartir
Grievance Committee Chair, Bob Beebe
4. Graduate Council Representation on Assessment Council
Marty Cala indicated he would be interested in serving as the Graduate Council
representative on the Assessment Council.
5. Time limit for transfer of credit
Several students have encountered an issue with the time limit for transfer of credit. In
some situations, a student may be granted approval for a transfer course, but then due to a
delay in graduation, find that the course has exceeded the six-year time limit. The
student must then complete a request for a time limit extension. After some discussion on
the issue, the following motion was approved:
Motion: Once the transfer course has been has been approved and accepted, it will
remain the full term of the student’s program, as long as the student remains
enrolled.
6. Graduate Faculty Membership Applications

Dr. Louise Aurillo, Nursing
Following a discussion and review of the application, this faculty member was
approved.
Regarding the Dates for Curriculum/Program/Faculty Status Processing document,
Dr. Kasvinsky explained this new process.
In an effort to keep the curriculum requests, graduate program action, and regular
graduate faculty membership application documents moving through the process in a
timely manner, a schedule was developed which includes three cycles with deadlines.
Items received after the beginning of the cycle will be held for the following cycle. Items
received after the 3rd cycle dates will be held for the following academic year. All items
approved will take effect Fall of 2013. This document was previously distributed to
Deans, Chairs, and Program Directors. The last Graduate Council meeting will be April
24, 2013. It is also noted that Randy Hoover would like all curriculum /program changes
have an index number assigned before circulating, to allow better ability to track
documents at the college level.

Dean’s Comments
Dr. Kasvinsky noted the significantly different approach in the responsibility of
recruiting for the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
