Regis Jesuit Girls and Parents:
We want to welcome you all to the Regis Jesuit High School Girls Soccer Program. We
are excited to see you all at try-outs as we put together the teams for our 2016 season.
Before we explain the try-out process, we want to give you a quick synopsis of the
programs; we have three teams that make up three different levels: Varsity, Junior
Varsity and our Frosh/Sophomore team.
Varsity is obviously the highest level, and we will be looking for the top 14-16 soccer
players in the school. Just because you are senior/upper classmen does not assure you a
spot on this team. To be considered for this team you must have the highest level of
fitness, technique, and game intelligence. We want to see players that can play at pace,
and hopefully with one and two touches. Like last year, we will be using a variety of
fitness tests, one will include one 7-minute mile.
Junior Varsity is the program that feeds varsity. Seniors are not allowed to play at the JV
level. At this level the players will be training and learning to play at the Varsity level.
They will perfect their technique, and as the season progresses learn the tactical side of
the game. Our main goal is to teach these players what they need to know so they can
play and be successful at the varsity level.
The Freshman/Sophomore team is our developmental team. This team consists primarily
of freshmen with a few sophomores. The focus of this team is to teach the girls the
fundamentals of the game. We want them to learn and understand the proper technique.
We want this team to help girls who are not at the Junior Varsity level to improve and
hopefully move up to the next level.
Even though we have 3 teams, we see ourselves as one program. Our goal is to place
each player on the team that meets their skill level but at the same time challenges them.
During the course of the season as a player improves they may have the opportunity to
move through the Freshman/Sophomore team and JV team, with hopes of eventually
making the Varsity roster.
Prior to try-outs we will have a preseason camp. This camp will(TENTATIVELY) be
February 22nd-26th at the Arapahoe Sports Center (or the family fun center bubble).
Mon – Fri. we will go from 6 - 715 am. More information and sign-ups will be handed
out in Early January.
To appropriately place these girls, try-outs will consist of the following:

Try-outs will be the week of February 29rd – March 2nd at the stadium or fields
from 3-5 pm
o Pending on the weather and field availability this time and location may
change. So plan on being as flexible as possible. (we had to play indoor in
the mornings on some days.)


The entire coaching staff will be observing and evaluating the girls during the
week.
Once tryouts are complete, the entire staff will meet and place the girls on the
appropriate team pending their ability.

The teams can be posted no earlier than Wednesday, March 2nd. Once we have
appropriately placed the girls on a team, we will post the rosters at a location to be
determined. Unfortunately we are a “cut program.” We will have to make cuts on all
levels, from the Freshman/Sophomore level up to the Varsity Level. That means
freshman can be cut as well as seniors. As previously stated, we need to have the
strongest teams possible and unfortunately that will not include everyone trying out. We
want it to be known, that it is nothing personal, it is just part of process to create the
strongest program we can. We encourage all players that do not make a team, to talk to
anyone of the coaches, as we are all part of the selection process.
*Here at Regis Jesuit, we encourage our students to participate in various
activities. With that in mind we are aware that seasons and activities overlap. If you
cannot make try-outs because of the overlap caused by another season, you will be given
a chance to try-out once your season/activity comes to an end. We ask that you notify
the coaches of your situation.
What does this all mean? The try-out process starts now. By signing the attached page,
(PARENTS TOO) you are committing yourself to soccer try-outs and understand the
process outlined above. You cannot try-out unless you and your parents sign and
submit the attached page to Coach Cropper (in GD English Office) no later than January
30th. (The earlier the better) Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you in February.
Pre-Season Training:
As we’ve always done we will hold fitness sessions twice a week starting the week we
get back from Christmas Break (Jan 5th). The fitness sessions will be either Mondays or
Tuesday and Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:15. We will meet everyone in the
cafeteria before we start training. These sessions are not required, but highly
recommended. If past is any indicator, those who have attended consistently have not
had difficulty passing any of our fitness tests.
