Year 7 day trip to Boulogne (France) - Thursday 16th June 2011
The Modern Foreign Languages Department would like to offer your son the opportunity to take part in a day trip
to Boulogne in France on Thursday 16th June 2011.
This is an educational visit to fit in with the Key Stage 3 Curriculum. Pupils will be able to understand the
cultural differences of a French town and will have to fill in a diary of their day.
Boulogne is a charming historical town about 40 minutes’ drive from Calais. Pupils will be able to visit the old
town for a spot of shopping and will also go on a tour of a traditional “confiserie” (sweet shop). We are hoping to
give pupils the opportunity to meet with their pen pals, with a visit to our link school in Boulogne and we are
currently awaiting confirmation of this from our French counterparts. If time allows we will also stop in a French
supermarket.
This activity, in which your son is invited to participate, is not one for which the school is legally entitled to
charge, but you are invited to make a voluntary contribution to cover the costs involved. These have been
assessed at £29.00 per head, a figure that includes travel, materials and pupils’ personal accident insurance,
arranged via the Local Education Authority. Although your son’s participation in this activity is not dependent
upon you making this contribution, I have to advise you that the visit will not take place unless parental
contributions are forthcoming. Your son must have a valid passport to travel. A European Health Insurance Card
(EHIC), which can be applied for online or through the Post Office is advisable.
If you wish your son to be considered for a place on the trip, please complete the Consent and Indemnity Form
(available on the Intranet) and return it to the School Office by Wednesday 4th May together with a £10 deposit.
Cheques should be made payable to “The Harvey Grammar School”. Places are limited to one coach and will be
allocated on a “first come, first serve basis”.
Since this is a school visit, it is essential that all pupils who go have a record of good behaviour.
