THREE WAY CONFERENCES:
The purpose of the Three Way Conference is to allow student, parent(s)/guardian(s) and teacher(s) time to focus on the
student’s learning journey and develop a joint plan for supporting continued student achievement. It is not intended to
focus solely on grades but rather to dialogue about the learning process and to identify goals that will support improved
student learning of curriculum outcomes. Student Portfolios are an important tool for students, parents, and teachers to
support assessment for learning and goal setting. Progress Reports are NOT distributed to Kindergarten students in 1st
Term, but all students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will be involved in the conferences.
THREE-WAY CONFERENCING:
1. Encourages the student to accept responsibility for his/her academic progress
2. Encourages student, parents/guardians, and the teacher to openly communicate as equal partners
3. Facilitates the development of student’s oral communication skills and self confidence
4. Increases student and parent/guardian participation in the learning process
St. Edward’s Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 26 from 3:45 – 8 p.m. and on Friday, November 27 from
8:45 – 11:45 a.m. There will be no regular classes for all the students on Friday, November 27th. All conference times
will be sent home with the student’s progress report on November 23. Please call the office at (306) 659-7300 if there is
a conflict with your scheduled time.

Choir
Our school choir continues to practice from 12:20-12:40 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next month. We are excited to sing at
TCU for the Knights of Columbus Carol Festival. This will take place on Monday, December 7 at 7:00. We will also be singing at a
liturgy on December 15 at 12:45pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cratty or Miss Molnar.
Knights of Columbus Carol Festival
If you would like to attend the Knights of Columbus Carol Festival on Monday, December 7 th we now have a limited amount of
tickets available at the office. Adult tickets are $10.00 each and a child’s ticket (12 & under) is $3.00. If your child is in our choir,
they do not need a ticket. Please see Mrs. Beuker if you would like to purchase tickets.
FAMILY CHRISTMAS NIGHT
Our Christmas Concert will be on Thursday, December 10 from 6:30-8:00pm. It is entitled, “Stations of the Crib” and it will showcase
PK to Grade 6/7. The Grade 7/8 will be using their leadership skills by helping out with various jobs that evening. At 6:00 our doors
will open. The bake sale, 50-50 draw and raffles put on by the CSCC will begin then. 75% of the proceeds will go to the CSCC and
25% of the proceeds will go to Royal University Hospital’s Acute Care Pediatric Ward, which is the social justice project the school
has taken on during the Advent Season.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
Students are asked to wear clothing suitable and appropriate for the return of colder, wet and snowy weather. Students are expected to
go outdoors for fresh air and exercise even on cool days, so please ensure students also have mitts and a warm toque. We do ask that
wet and dirty footwear are removed when coming into the school. Please have shoes at school that students can wear indoors.
BAND NEWS
Our winter concert is fast approaching! The concert will be on November 30 at 9:30 am. Please encourage your children to keep
practicing! Also, remember that the band uniform is white shirt with black pants/skirt, black socks/tights, and black shoes. It makes us
look much better as a band and feel more like a “team” if we’re all wearing the same thing!
If you are renting an instrument from the school board, please note that invoices have gone out. Please pay the rental fee as soon as
you can, and contact either Ms. Haughian or the office if you have any issues.
SRC
The St. Edward SRC students would like your help collecting toys and money to be given to the pediatric unit at Royal University
Hospital. Items will be collected in classrooms and donated before Christmas. See the attached poster for more information.
Turn Markers Into Energy!
St. Edward School will be working with Crayola through a program called ColorCycle to send used markers to a facility that will
convert them into clean fuel. This will help provide energy for things like powering vehicles and heating homes and will help keep
markers out of our landfills. Each classroom will have a plastic container that will be used to collect any used markers (even nonCrayola brand). Thank you in advance for participating!

Seasonal Influenza Campaign - 2015-16
In an average year, 10-20% of people get sick from influenza. Rates of infection are highest in children aged 5-9 years. One
in 6 seniors with lab confirmed influenza disease needed hospitalization last year. Getting the influenza vaccine will reduce
disease, hospitalization and deaths.
Last year, 563 cases of influenza were reported in Saskatoon Health Region. Overall 31% of the cases were hospitalized. In
Canada there were
598 deaths (7,905 hospitalized). Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory infection that is most serious in children under 5,
persons with medical conditions, pregnant women, and seniors.
Protect you and your family.
Influenza, otherwise known as “flu”, is a contagious disease caused by a virus. It is spread from infected persons to the nose
or throat of others by coughing, sneezing, direct contact, or contact with objects the infected person may have touched.
Symptoms of influenza include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, weakness, cough, sore throat and sneezing.
Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are not common with influenza.
You can protect yourself from influenza with frequent hand washing, the use of alcohol-based hand gels, and avoiding
contact with individuals who have influenza-like illness. If you become
sick with influenza, stay home, wash your hands frequently, and cough or sneeze into your sleeve to avoid spreading the
virus to others.
Each fall, influenza vaccine is made available to protect against three of the most common viruses shown to cause severe
infection. This means the vaccine changes from year to year.
Visit the website at www.4flu.ca for other clinic
locations and times or call 655-4FLU (655-4538) for more information.
