On 31st May Costessey Junior School held a Tudor Day where parents and Year 2
children from CIS came to experience what life was like during this period. Everyone
was in costume which added to the excitement of the day and a good time was had by
all!
The Year 5 team organised a very successful residential trip to Brancaster. We were
so pleased that this annual event could return in 2012 and the children benefited
greatly from the experience. The trip linked into their learning about Coasts and there
were also opportunities for team building activities. A huge thanks to the Year 5 team
for organising this and to parents for their support.
Year 6 visited Hautbois Activity Centre as a special end of SATs celebration day- this
was thoroughly deserved! The children took part in a many adventurous activities
including the scary Zip –Wire!
Year 4 visited Hickling Broad as part of their studies on the Norfolk Broads. Despite
the temperamental weather, they had a wonderful day learning, first-hand, about the
wonderful diverse wildlife which we have right here on our doorsteps.
Our Olympic Themed week was a huge success! As a school we wanted to promote a
love of sport and a sense of understanding about different cultures. This was definitely
achieved with the children having the opportunity to try tennis, bowling, archery, Jazz
dancing, Zumba, hockey, basketball, Street dance and boxing. We had many visitors
in to support our event including Jon Thaxton and Danny Nobbs who told their
inspirational stories of courage and perseverance. We would like to thank everyone
who supported our event! Unfortunately our Olympic Themed Fete scheduled for July
6th had to be cancelled due to bad weather. We will be rearranging this event at the
start of next term and will inform you of dates as soon as we can.
During the last term, we have held a variety of events to help welcome the Y2 into our
school in preparation for September, we look forward to seeing them all in the new
school year!
Our Year 6 pupils have also been learning about their new school and have been up
to Ormiston Victory Academy for a variety of activities including Gymnastics,
Outdoor learning, Maths and Science. We would like to thank the staff from Victory
for organising these events.
In the Spring Term, Miss Cocks researched into how we can improve our
communication with parents. She sent out a parent survey and spoke to staff, pupils
and parents to establish how effective our links with parents were. The results were
extremely positive with 92% of parents feeling there is a good relationship with
parents. Parents were asked how they would like to receive communication and 58%
stated by text message and 35% chose email. In response to this, we will be
introducing ParentMail for all parents in September (please see separate letter to fid
out more!).
