MEET THE TEACHER
Our first meeting for P2-7 parents was held on
Wednesday 8 September. This was a very
important meeting where information about the
year ahead was shared. All children received an
information pack after the meeting. Please share
this information with your child/children and
keep for reference. It was disappointing that in
some classes turn out was a low as 50%. Parental
support is crucial for children’s learning to
progress at a good rate and this is a very
important time of year when expectations are
made clear for the year ahead.
Establishment phase letters included a tear off
slip which should be returned to school. Those
children returning their signed slips will be able
to complete the first bullet point in their
responsible citizen section of their new Lasswade
Lion Record cards!
Every child received their Lasswade Lion cards
on Thursday. These will record their ‘green’
weeks with lion stickers and allow everyone to
aim for a Lasswade Lion Award! Further details
were sent out in the Positive Behaviour Booklet .
DIARY REMINDER/UPDATE
PLEASE NOTE – the end of session is 1
JULY 2011 not 30 June as stated in our
annual diary.

AUTUMN CHILL
We are moving into cooler, wetter weather
and would appreciate if parents could ensure
that children have a coat to wear at break
times. Our playground can be windy and cold at
times!
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT
A full copy of the School Improvement Plan is
available from the school office and a
summary is included with this newsletter. We
also have our Standards and Quality Report
prepared. This is a record of all our work from
last session and shows an impressive range of
activities, learning and achievements. Copies
of this were available on our Meet the
Teacher evening but if you did not get one
please contact our school office.
ASSEMBLY
We hold regular assemblies throughout the
year. At most of our assemblies we have a
contribution from different classes who share
what has been happening in their class. This
session we would once again like to invite
parents to drop into share these class
assemblies. We would ask that younger
brothers or sisters who come along sit quietly.
If interested you are welcome to come along
at 9.15 am

swimming lessons.
Well done to successful learners Holly and Rosie Brown.
Holly P5Y, has moved up to Swim Fit at Aquatic learning.
Rosie P2X, has moved up to the next class in Aquatic learning.
SOUND START BAND
This session we are very fortunate in having the opportunity to be part of this project. P6 children
who do not play a strings instrument will be part of the sound start band and have the opportunity
for weekly lessons in brass, woodwind or percussion with Mr Knox and Mr Walker.
PARENT HELPERS
Thank you to the parents/carers who signed up at our Meet the Teacher evening. If you did not get
the opportunity please sign up below! We are also looking for you to share your talents further this
year and help us with our Masterclasses. These classes will allow personalisation and choice for
children in line with Curriculum for Excellence. These will be run for one afternoon per week in 4
week blocks later this year. Children will have the opportunity to follow their interests or try out
something new! You may have a talent eg can speak French, German, Spanish, Russian – or be a great
knitter or cook, baker, gardener or artist – please let us know – anything considered!

LOST!
Once again we have a number of items of unnamed clothing we need to
reunite with their owners! If you have lost anything please drop in for a
look!
WAKE AND SHAKE
Our new P7 children are helping Mrs Campbell with our Wednesday Wake
and Shake. They would love ALL parents who are in the playground on
Wednesday mornings to PLEASE JOIN IN! It is a great healthy way to
start the day!
BIKES AND SCOOTERS
A number of younger children have been riding their scooters and bikes
around in the playground while waiting for older siblings. In case of
accidents could we please request that children do not use bikes and
scooters in the playgrounds. One of our school rules is that children
should dismount at the school entrance and walk with their bike or
scooter into school. This is part of our cycle training for P6. Hopefully
this way we can avoid anyone getting hurt.
Our School Improvement Plan
Every session we review the work we do and plan our next steps. Our
Standards and Quality report outlines our progress over a session and
gives full details in key areas. This session we also had our very
successful HMIe inspection which builds on the information we share with
you.
Our Standards and Quality report was available on our Meet the Teacher
evening and has been given to all P1 parents. If you would like a copy
please let us know.
