Pediatric Clinical Simulation Lab
I. Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this clinical experience, the student will be able to:
a) Demonstrate knowledge and skill in assessment, nursing intervention, and
evaluation for selected simulated pediatric illnesses
b) Demonstrate understanding of developmental traits in the design of nursing
care for selected simulated pediatric patients
c) Demonstrate safe nursing practice and decision making skills in the care of
selected simulated pediatric patients
II.
Preparational activities:
a) Review pages in Pillitteri which correspond to the following topics:
o Nursing care of the pediatric patient with appendicitis
o Nursing care of the pediatric patient with gastroenteritis
o Nursing care of the pediatric patient with a neurological disorder
o Nursing care of the pediatric patient with asthma
IV.
During the seminar the student will:
A. Bring Maternal Child textbook (Pillitteri) to clinical simulation
B. Participate in a clinical simulation
C. Participate in a debriefing session following the simulation experience
D. Discuss the outcomes listed in part I
