Aims / Outcomes
Tissue Viability
 Understand the aetiology of pressure ulceration
 Demonstrate a knowledge of the risk factors in pressure ulcer formation
 Carry out a full assessment on a patient at risk of developing a pressure ulcer
 Be able to correctly grade a pressure ulcer using the EPUAP scale
 Demonstrate a basic knowledge in relation to levels of equipment used for PU
prevention and treatment
 Demonstrate a knowledge of wound dressings used to treat pressure ulcers
Dermatology
 Evaluate the risk factors that determine the probability of developing a
dermatological condition or breakdown of skin integrity
 Demonstrate knowledge of the assessment and analysis of information used to aid
diagnosis of a dermatological condition
 Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of the use of emollients and
vehicles
 Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of patient health promotion and
education
 Demonstrate an understanding of the possible psychosocial impact on an
individual with a dermatological condition
Vascular Placement
 Demonstrate an understanding of arteriosclerosis and what the main causes are.
 Show an understanding of Intermittent Claudication and how it presents.
 Be able to name and locate the pulses in the foot and leg used in a routine
vascular assessment.
 Demonstrate an understanding of what an ABPI is, how it is calculated and how
to interpret the results.
 Under supervision carry out a vascular assessment on a patient with Intermittent
Claudication.
 Understand the causes of Varicose Veins and treatment options.
 Demonstrate knowledge of specific factors that affect wound healing in the
vascular patient.
 Understand the importance of duplex scanning in the vascular patient.
Burns / Plastics
 Name three types of skin cancer and briefly describe how they would present.
 Describe the difference between a full thickness skin graft and a split skin graft
and demonstrate knowledge of where each would be used.
 What is the purpose of a tie over dressing on a graft?
 How is the surface area of a burn worked out?
 Demonstrate a knowledge of correct dressing selection for
o a burn
o a graft
