ALBERTA ARTS CHALLENGE 2014
Theme: Beauty
Purpose: The goal of this challenge is to look at beauty in different ways. This can be
looking at inner beauty, which is the character traits that make us unique. This can also be
looking at beauty within the world around us.

• With your unit, find 3 songs that are popular today that promote inner beauty. Have a group
discussion about the lyrics and/or video and why you feel they promote inner beauty.
Section #2: Craft – do one of the following
 Make a collage of what you think beauty means to you
 In partners, have one person describe themselves while the other person draws what
they are hearing.

Section #3: Dance
 Play songs of different genres (jazz, swing, rock, classical, techno, etc) and dance “like
no one’s watching”. You can make this in to a dance party.

Section #4: Photo Essay – do one of the following:
 Take or draw pictures of all the members of your unit (girls and guiders). Have every
girls in the unit write a word or phrase that describes the inner beauty of that girl. At the
end of the meeting, each girl can take home her picture to hang in a prominent place to
remind her.
 Make a “word cloud” using your name as the base word and using at least 10 other
words describing your inner beauty (what you like about yourself)
There are resources on the internet such as www.wordle.net
Section #5: Drama: do one of the following
 Create your own play/skit about inner beauty.
 Create a commercial to promote inner beauty to your peers and record it.
 Create a play about something that you find beautiful. Try to do this around something
in your environment that you find beautiful or someone who you feel has inner beauty.
