Kindergarten News
Teacher News:
I am really looking forward to sharing a
classroom with your child this year. This is
my fourteenth year teaching at Bolton
Primary. My husband Bob and I live in
Tigard with our dog and two cats, two
gerbils and a fish. Our daughter, Katie, is
currently living in S. Korea where she
teaches English to primary students, and
our son, Peter, is a junior at Lewis and Clark
College. In my free time I enjoy working in
my garden, reading, hiking, and relaxing
with friends.
Split Start:
Our Kindergarteners have the privilege of
staggering their start to Kindergarten. The
children who are enrolled in the All Day K
program will come to school on Tuesday
Sept. 2nd, and the Half Day K will start
school on Wednesday Sept. 3rd. This lets
them get to know their teacher and learn
about their classroom and routines in a
smaller group on their first day. This means
that if your child is enrolled in All Day K,
and is scheduled to come to school on
Tuesday, he/she will NOT come to school
on Wednesday but will return with the
whole class on Thursday.
Snack:
We will be having a snack each day in our
class in the morning. Please send in a
healthy finger food type snack for your
child each day. This needs to be something
that can be consumed in about 10 minutes.
We usually have snack on the carpet area,
so please don’t send anything that would
spill and be messy. If you can’t eat it with
fingers, then it’s most likely not a good
morning snack idea!
Lunch:
All Day K only: Your child will be eating
lunch in the classroom each day. We eat at
12:00 – 12:30. If your student brings a
lunch from home please provide them with
a cloth (best) or paper napkin to use as a

placemat. We clean the tables after we eat,
not before, so this keeps your child’s food
clean as well as making our clean up
routine easier. Purchased school lunches
come on a plastic tray.
Specials:
Our class will have Music on Mondays (all
day only) and Tuesdays (everyone). We
will also be checking out books in our
school library on Mondays. These books
are due back the following week. Please
find a “special spot” in your home to keep
library books.
P.E. class will be on Thursdays (everyone)
and Fridays (all day only). Please make
sure that your child wears gym shoes and
comfortable clothing that they can move in
on these days.
Extra! Extra!
We are asking that you put an extra pair of
underwear, sweatpants and socks in a
Ziploc bag, with their name on it, to keep in
your child’s backpack for them to change
into in case of bathroom or muddy
playground accidents.
Birthdays:
If your child’s birthday falls on a school day,
we will celebrate it in class with a special
song from his/her classmates. We cannot
accommodate treats during our school day
as we have many special diets in our room.
Book Orders:
I will be sending home a Scholastic book
order form once a month. This is to provide
you with an opportunity to purchase quality
books at a very low cost. You can order
online with a credit card or order through
the paper catalogue and write one check
for your entire order – all of the orders are
“Scholastic Bookclubs”. Please do not send
cash. The first book order will be coming
home on Friday Sept. 5th and will be due on
Friday Sept. 12th.
Class Pet:
We have a Netherland dwarf rabbit named
“Peter” in our classroom. After Peter gets a
little more used to our activity level, we will
bring him out to pet occasionally.
Curriculum Night:
This year curriculum night will be held on
Sept. 17 at 6:30. We will begin in the gym
with the rest of the school, and then I will
meet you in the classroom. I look forward
to sharing some information with you about
our program at Bolton.
home, feel free to send a note with your
child and I will send more “bus notes” home
with him/her.
Coats:
Please remember to put your child’s name
inside his/her coat – let’s try to keep the
lost and found empty this year!
Volunteering:
I will have a sign up sheet at Curriculum
Night for parent volunteers. I will begin
having parents volunteer in the classroom
the first week in Oct. Please consider
helping us this year in Room 8!
Communication:
Please check your child’s backpack each day
for papers, projects and notes from me. I
will be writing a newsletter and posting it to
my webpage each Friday. You can read it
by going to the Bolton Primary School
website and clicking on “Our Staff” and then
clicking on “webpage” next to my name. I
use this as my primary means of
communication with you, so it will be
important that you read it each Friday.
Conferences:
Fall conferences are held early in the year
as an opportunity to share information
about your child with your teacher and to
set some goals for the year. I will be
holding conferences on Mon. Oct. 6th &
Tues. Oct. 7th in the late afternoon/evening
and on Wed. Oct. 8th during the day.
