Oils for healing, cleansing, and holy anointing are
mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible.
Aloes, Cassia, Frankincense, Galbanum, Hyssop,
Balm, Spikenard, Cedarwood, Myrrh, and many more.
Why did the Wisemen bring Jesus, Mary and Joseph
the gift of Frankincense and Myrrh? What were they
used for 2000 years ago?
What are these precious oils used for today?
Modern Science finds some of them to be as
effective as antibiotics and to promote overall health,
vitality and longevity.
The Healing Oils of the Bible
“And they went out…and they anointed with oil many that were sick
and healed them.” Mark 6:12-13

Oil of Joy/Oil of Gladness
God made our noses to be wired
differently than our other four
senses. It carries molecules directly
into the emotional center of the
brain where memories & emotions
are stored.

Melissa, YlangYlang, Osmanthus,
Sandalwood
Our Amazing Cells!
• Our bodies have 100 trillion cells
• Each cell has 6 gigabytes of memory (one person’s cells contain more
memory than all the computers of the world combined!)
• These 100 trillion cells must work together well for our bodies
to function properly.
• How cells communicate:
1. Nervous system – electrical pulses
2. Hormones – called Lingan’s (messages sent from brain
thru courier system). Each lingan contains a key that will only
open the cell to which it’s carrying a message for = The cells
Receptor Site
• These receptor sites can become blocked (unhealthy diet,
pharmaceuticals, toxins in our bodies…)
• Without clean receptor sites, cells cannot communicate, and
the body malfunctions resulting in sickness.
God’s Amazing Essential Oils
• Because of the tiny molecular structure of the
components of an essential oil, they are extremely
concentrated.
• On drop contains approx. 40 million-trillion
molecules! (4 with 19 zeros after it!)
40,000,000,000,000,000,000
• We have 100-trillion cells
• Therefore 1 drop of essential oil contains enough
molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with
40,000 molecules.
• Considering it only takes one molecule of the right
kind to open a Receptor Site and communicate with
the DNA to alter cellular function, you can see why
even one drop can have profound effects on the
body, brain, and emotions.
Quick Mention of
“The Big Triple Punch” - PMS
A major aspect responsible for the therapeutic and
healing ability familiar to essential oil users
• Phenylpropanoids and Phenols – Cleans the receptor
sites in our cells (along with alcohols, ketones and aldehydes).
• Sesquiterpenes – come into the cell and erase/delete
all the bad information.
• Monoterpenes – Help to reprogram cells and reestablish cell to it’s healthy state.
These 3 classes of chemical components may be why
essential oils sometimes affect a healing that is
virtually instant and also permanent.
Interesting Things to Ponder…
1. Fragrances of essential oils were in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 1:11-13
2. Types of oils plants make: Essential Oils and Fatty Oils
3. The Biblical meaning of “anoint” is the Hebrew word
“masach” which is to “rub or massage.” Very similar to
the English word “massage”.
Psalm 23 & Exodus 30:22-25 – Sacred Anointing Oil
4. The original healers in Bible-times were priests who
often did their healing in temples. Leviticus 8: 1,2 & 10-12
5. Interesting point about Holy Anointing Oil

The amazing gifts of
Frankincense & Myrrh
The Gift of Frankincense
• Frankincense was valued more than gold during the ancient
times.
• Frankincense symbolizes divinity; it was one of the three gifts
given to Jesus at his birth.
• Frankincense was used to anoint the newborn sons of kings
and priests, which helps to explain why it was brought to baby
Jesus by the Magi.
• Frankincense was once greatly valued throughout the Middle
East, from Rome to India. It was very expensive and a gift
having a wonderful fragrance. It was used for a variety of
purposes such as incense (Ex. 30:34), medical treatment, and
perfume (Song of Solomon 3:6; 4:14). We discover from the
Bible that Frankincense was used in worship.
• Frankincense was a Holy Anointing Oil, a cure-all. It was
thought to assist one in the transition of death, used for
embalming and perfume.

MYRRH (Commiphora myrrha)
“I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, and aloes, and cinnamon”
(Proverbs 7:17).
Myrrh is first mentioned in the Bible in Gen.
37:25, where the Ishmaelite caravan
carried Joseph to slavery in Egypt. And
When Jacob sent his sons into Egypt for
food he told them to take along some myrrh
as a gift for the man in charge (Gen 43:11).
The Gift of Myrrh
• Myrrh was an extremely valuable commodity during biblical times
and was imported from India and Arabia.
• Liquid myrrh was used in the making of the Holy Anointing oil for
the anointing of the priests and the articles of the Tabernacle.
• More Ancient Uses: Pregnant mothers anointed themselves for
protection against infectious diseases
• Used after childbirth to prevent or remove abdominal stretch
marks.
• Customarily used on umbilical cords of newborns to protect from
infection, which symbolically is meant to cut off generational
curses.
* It may have been for all of these uses that Myrrh was brought to
Mary and Baby Jesus.
MYRRH (Commiphora myrrha)
• Action: Anti-infectious, antiviral, parasitic (worms),
hormone-like, anti-inflammatory, soothes skin conditions,
anti-hyperthyroid, and supports immune system.
• Traditional Indications: Bronchitis, diarrhea, dysentery,
hyperthyroidism, stretch marks, thrush, ulcers, vaginal
thrush and viral hepatitis.
• Historical Uses: This oil may help asthma, athlete’s foot,
candida, coughs, eczema, digestion, fungal infection,
gingivitis, gum infections, hemorrhoids, mouth ulcers,
ringworm, and sore throats, skin conditions (chapped
and cracked), wounds, and wrinkles.
SANDLEWOOD/ALOES (Santalum album)
“And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first
came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh
and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’
body, Joseph and Nicodemus wrapped it with spices in
strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial
customs.” (John 19:39-40).
Many botanists believe that aloes was derived from sandalwood, one of the
oldest incenses known to man. Its 4,000-year history includes use as a
carved wood as well as distillation for its sweet-, woody-, and fruity-scented
oil. The great quantity of myrrh and aloes used in preparing Christ’s body for
burial was indicative of respect.
SANDLEWOOD/ALOES (Santalum album)
• Action: Sandalwood is high in sesquiterpenes that have been
researched in Europe for their ability to stimulate the pineal
gland and the limbic region of the brain. The pineal gland is
responsible for releasing melatonin, a powerful antioxidant
that enhances deep sleep. Sandalwood is similar to
Frankincense oil in its support of nerves and circulation.
• Indications: Bronchitis (chronic), herpes, cystitis, and skin
tumors.
• Uses: May help with cystitis and urinary tract infections. It
may also be beneficial for acne, depression, pulmonary
infections, menstrual problems, nervous tension, and skin
infection. It may help dry or dehydrated skin.
• Emotional Uses: May unlock emotional trauma from DNA of
cells, oxygenate the pineal and pituitary glands, thus
improving attitude.
CASSIA
“All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the
ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad” (Psalm 45:8).
CASSIA (Cinnamomum cassia)
• Two of the oldest known spices in the world are
cinnamon and cassia. It was an ingredient in the
holy anointing oil and the incense that was burned
daily in the temple. While its aroma is similar to
cinnamon, cassia is chemically and physically quite
different.
• Action: Antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal.
• Traditional Uses: Immune system builder. The
British have used this oil specifically for dyspepsia or
colic with nausea. In Chinese medicine it is used
particularly for vascular disorders. Cassia oil is
among the most antiseptic of essential oils.
CINNAMON
Cinnamon comes from the
inner bark layers of a tropical
evergreen tree that is
predominantly found in Sri
Lanka. In the United States,
most of what we know as
cinnamon comes from the bark
of the Cassia tree, and is not
as sweet as real cinnamon.
CINNAMON
• Ancient Uses: Holy Anointing Oils. Perfume
• Modern Uses: Antimicrobial and cleansing. The
combination of powerful compounds in cinnamon oil
make it one of the most powerful antibacterial,
antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and antifungal oils of all!
• In lab tests it had been proven as effective or better
than several antibiotics.
• Historical Use: Has been applied to several tropical
diseases, typhoid, and can regulate blood sugar.
• Applications: Diffuse, topically, orally and as incense.
CYPRESS (Mediterranean Cypress)
"He hewest him down cedars, and taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth
for himself among the trees of the forest"
(Isaiah 44:14).
The cypress tree is
renowned for its
durability. The sturdy
cypress doors of St.
Peter's in Rome, for
example, show no signs
of decay, even after
1,200 years! Some Bible
scholars believe that
cypress may be the
"gopher wood" used to
build Noah's Ark.
CYPRESS
• Action: Improves circulation and supports the nerves and
intestines. Anti-infectious, antibacterial, anti-microbial (causative agent
of tuberculosis), and strengthens blood of capillaries.
• Traditional Indications: Arthritis, bronchitis, circulation, cramps,
hemorrhoids, insomnia, intestinal parasites, menopausal problems,
menstrual pin, pancreas insufficiencies, pulmonary infections,
rheumatism, spasms, throat problems, varicose veins, and fluid retention.
• Historical Use: This oil may be beneficial for asthma, strengthening blood
capillary walls, reducing cellulite, circulatory system, strengthening
connective tissue, coughs, edema, improving energy, gallbladder, bleeding
gums, hemorrhaging, laryngitis, liver disorders, muscular cramps, nervous
tension, nose bleeds, and ovarian cysts. It is outstanding when used in
skin care, lessening scar tissue.
• Emotional Use: Cypress influences, strengthens, and helps ease the
feeling of loss. It creates a feeling of security, grounding, and helps heal
emotional trauma.
• Matthew 26:6-12
• James 5:13-16
