The Pros and Cons
Pros of Animal Testing
• Medical Research
• Consumer Product Testing
• Education Research
Pros of Animal Testing
• Medical Research:
1.used to save humans from illnesses or help them lead better, healthier lives
2.the studies are often beneficiary to animals such as the case of heartworm medicine
3.using animals with certain characteristics similar to ours to minimize the number used

Cons of Animal Testing
• Morality
• Necessity/Validity
• Usefulness
Cons of Animal Testing
Morality
1. Supporters say animals have the right to live their own
lives peacefully.
2. Also said that we shouldn’t be allowed to mess with them
just because we can.
Cons of Animal Testing
Necessity/Validity
1. Research-related deaths are considered…
a.
b.
Unnecessary
Morally not different from murder
2. Animal dissection is regarded as misleading.
Cons of Animal Testing
Usefulness
1. Some believe many of the goals of this type of testing are not
significant.
Ex: the blinding of rabbits for new mascara and other makeup
2. Effects of the drug on animal may differ from human reaction.
3. Being in unnatural conditions or pain and distress may cause
inaccurate or consistent results.
Animal Testing
• Whether or not animal testing is right or
wrong in any sense, it has lead to
breakthroughs in medical technology and
other studies.
• Not all studies lead to positive results so the
testing may have been a waste. By supporters
it is considered a lesson learned that we know
there may not be an effective cure or outcome
of the tests.
