Index of Medical Underservice (weighted sum of
above components)

HPSAS OF GREATEST NEED AND HPSA SCORES
HPSA scores determine HPSA’s of greatest need. A
higher score = greater need.
HPSA scores determine priority for National Health
Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship vacancies
Cut off scores are determined by NHSC for each
discipline/specialty; no more then 2 scholar
vacancies.
HPSA scores determine priority for NHSC loan
repayment funding and J1s
