6.1 Factoring Polynomials
factor out a common factor
Factoring (Divide):
Find a # and/or variable that is
divisible by all #’s in the expression.
To divide the variable subtract the
exponents
Divisible by…
2 if last digit is an even number.
3 if the sum of the digits is divisible
by 3
4 if the number formed by the last
two digits is divisible by 4
5 if the number ends in 0 or 5
7 Nike Rule: “just do it” (long division)
9 if the sum of the digits  by 9
10 if the last digit is a zero.
5(x + 3) = 5x + 15
