Background Information
•
•
•
•
•
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created a program in 2004 called SmartWay™
that targets environmentally cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation product options.
California Air Resource Board (CARB) recently passed state regulations requiring tractors
and trailers, (53’ or longer dry and refrigerated vans), to be SmartWay™ compliant
beginning in 2010.
Additional states are considering adoption of the same SmartWay™ policies in the near
future.
The development of more efficient and cost effective aerodynamics solutions continues to
grow in the trucking industry.
The DuraPlate Products Group, a business unit of Wabash National, has developed a
trailer skirt solution called DuraPlate Aeroskirt.
