Current situation
•
•
Heterogeneity of IT environments (standards, processes and tools)
(across divisions)

Project-driven IT-environment depending on customer needs

national driven IT-roadmaps according to national tailored requirements (IT-vendor)

expensive data exchange needed (limited collaboration, data redundancy, error prone)

various IT-initiatives (PLM, PDM, CAx, ERP) impacting BU IT budget & landscape
Legacy issues (data migration, data availability, archiving) with significant
recurring costs

NEEDS:
•
•
•
Enhanced cooperation between sites and divisions is needed

Efficient transfer of workload, expertise, availability of skills & capabilities  balanced
relations

Sharing of common services and solutions (common tools, processes, standards,
training, support)
Globalization by Extended Enterprise Collaboration (int. engineering centers,
integration of partners)
Business Strategy drives harmonized IT-requirements in a consolidated ITbudget
•
•
Usage of resources/funding from EADS/CASSIDIAN wide initiatives
Higher influence on standards in Aerospace and Defence leverage
– Stronger driving of IT-venders (COTS-approach acc. EADS needs) as EADS /
Cassidian
– potential customer needs could be easily adapted and proposals matching their needs
– COTS – approach (generic & flexible instead of specific and customized)


IT landscape supporting further Cassidian integration/globalization
Mitigation of legacy issues
•
•
•
•
less and finally common interfaces (PLM-SAP) with less data exchange
common platform with reduced recurring cost (Cassidian -level)
common roadmaps supporting EADS / Cassidian -strategy
stronger influence on IT-vendors and standards

Ramp up of business support capabilities
 Balance between business-specific needs (and
priorities) and level of standardization obtained
by a EADS and CASSIDIAN template
>80% specific
 Identify common core of requirements stated
from different business projects (units)
 Synchronize availability of template functionality
with program and project roadmaps
100% COTS
 Meet objectives of adequate business support
while generalizing requirements and according
solutions
 Manage BU- or business program-specific
requirements and solutions

EADS PHUSION – Introduction

PHUSION is the acronym for PHenix Unified System for Interoperation Of the industrial Network
PHUSION is the instrument of PLM for
global collaboration:
1.
enabling processes orchestration for
PLM global collaboration between all
partners through a common platform
2.
providing interoperability between
heterogeneous PLM systems (from
partners)
Missions of PHUSION
 Maintain EADS PLM harmonization
 Support “multi-tier” worldwide collaboration
3.
ensuring the appropriate level of
security for the collaboration
 Meet security requirements in particular for Defence collaboration
 Promote the use of commonly agreed open standards
 Support full synergy with BoostAeroSpace

Page 27
EADS PHUSION – Objectives
PHUSION enables EADS to move from:

a current “OEM1 centric model”, in which the OEM is a bottle neck. This model is rigid, costly and not
consistent with BoostAeroSpace PLM (whose principle is based on PLM externalization for collaboration)

to a “Network based model” where collaboration processes and responsibilities are distributed through a
shared orchestration, in a flexible way

EADS Standardisation
Standardisation is a key enabler for PHENIX harmonisation projects.
Harmonisation is handled
Through PLM Harmonisation Center (PHC) projects:
• identifying common best suited processes, methods, and tools…for all steps of
the product life cycle (from engineering to customer services,…)
With the support of Standards Steering Comittee (SSC):
• Working collaboratively with other PHC projects : e.g. on electrical harness,
systems engineering,…
• Providing recommendations and analysis on the interoperability full solutions (not
only standards but also policies, business cases, use cases,…)
• Providing a long term vision of standardization strategy for the whole group
(through EADS SSC 5 year vision)
• Representing EADS position globally, through its involvement in International
Standardization Associations (ASD, AIA, ProSTEP iVip & others) and in topicrelated international working groups (STEP AP242, LOTAR Project & others)
