Natural Gas
People are using natural gas as a
transportation fuel more than ever
and it will be a continued trend
– Dramatic Increases in Gasoline/Diesel
Pricing
– Attention to Environmental Concerns – Clean
Air Advocates
– Cap and Trade
Compressed Natural Gas
RT’s History with CNG
- Conversion from a diesel
fleet to a Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG) fleet.
- RT’s conversion to CNG
prompted other area transit
agencies to follow, including
the Yolo County
Transportation District.
- RT successfully completed
the fleet conversion and
retired the last diesel bus in
2004.
– 100 percent CNG bus
fleet has saved $8 to
11 million per year in
diesel fuel at current
California prices.
