Cracow Technical University (CUT)

• The Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology in

Cracow is a state higher university with over 60 years of tradition (founded in 1945).

• Tadeusz Kościuszko has been our patron for over 30 years.

• He was a national hero of both Poland and the United

States of America, but he was also an engineer and a builder, responsible for the fortifications in Cracow and the West Point fort in the United States.

• His name is a reminder of our responsibility to respect tradition, the accomplishments of our academic forebears, reliability in giving access and promoting knowledge and openness towards new ideas.

Cracow Technical University (CUT)

• The Cracow Technical University (CUT) consists of 7 faculties with 22 courses of study and many specialties, 18,000 students including full-time, post-graduate and doctoral students and nearly 1,200 academic teachers.

• CUT also offers an a library with a large selection of printed and electronic collections, a state of the art multi-sport facility, inter-faculty scientific and didactic units, art galleries, student clubs, a choir, and student organizations and incubator for set-up business activity

• CUT has agreements with many scientific centers all over the world and is involved

EU educational programs. As a result, it offers joint scientific studies, exchanges of students and academic teachers, as well as the possibility of obtaining additional certificates and diplomas.

• CTU’s collaboration with industry resulted in an active Technology Transfer Center

located partialy in old CK jail.

• A Special Economic Zone - the Cracow Technological Park - was created by CTU 1997.

It is a platform linking the Cracovian scientific world with modern technology.

About the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Brief history

• In 1945 , Krakow had only one higher education institution with a Department of General

Electrical Engineering: the AGH University of Science and Technology.

• In 1953 , this Department was moved to the Cracow University of Technology (CUT).

• In 1974, the Department grew to Electrical Engineering and Electronics Institute (IEiE). Upon the commencement of its activities, the institute comprised of two divisions: Industrial Electrical

Engineering Division and Industrial Control Engineering Division.

• In 1975, CUT established its Faculty of Transport and incorporated into its structure the IEiE. In that same year, the University began offering programmes in electrical engineering.

• In 1988, the Faculty of Transport was transformed into the Faculty of Transport and Electrical

Engineering, currently named the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Recent milestones

• In 1998, the Faculty was granted authority to award PhD degrees in electrical engineering.

• In 2002, the Faculty began participating in an inter-departmental computer science programme offering the opportunity to pursue an ICT systems specialisation.

• In 2004, the Faculty began participating in an inter-departmental power engineering programme offering the opportunity to pursue an electrical power engineering specialisation.
