The need is great
• Every day, more than 22,000 children under the age of 5 die —
most from preventable causes such as malaria, diarrhea, measles,
and pneumonia [UNICEF, 2010]
• Hunger is linked to nearly one-third of all child deaths worldwide
[UNICEF, 2010]
• About 67 million of the world’s children of primary
school age are not enrolled in school [UNESCO, 2011]
• Some 1 billion children are severely deprived of at least
one of the essential goods and services they require to
survive and develop [UNICEF, 2009]
Jesus calls His followers
to care for the widow, the orphan, and the sick
The Church can respond by:
•Promoting Child Sponsorship as a way to answer God’s call to serve
the poor
•Advocating for and funding programs that transform
communities and save lives
•Caring for orphans and vulnerable children
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is
this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress . . .
—James 1:27 (NIV)
Bring hope to one child in need
through sponsorship
You’ll reflect God’s love by providing your child with access to:
•Clean water, nutritious food, health care, education and
spiritual nurture
•Job training (for older children) and micro-enterprise
development
•Trained volunteers to look after the needs of children
and help care for sick and dying parents
